IowaDeerHunter
Re: Dumb dogs To be totally honest with you we have a ton of wild dogs around our timber. My dad has run into a pack of them in the dark while in the timber. We have pictures of two wild ones on our game cams, and those are the two we ended up poisoning. Seen two sitting close to our land in a field the other day, one looked like a big rot and the other was a big black dog, mix. Everybody, and I mean almost EVERYBODY down there has s big black shaggy dog, they bark and growl at you and chase your car. Actually hit one once, to bad it didn't die. But I am not afraid to shoot a dog if it is posing a threat to me.
3whunt
Re: Dumb dogs me neither... i don't mind killing a dog if it messes up a hunt either... i would rather shoot one than poison it... probably illegal and definitely painful... the bullet is usually quick and painless... drkillemquick
Re: Dumb dogs Not sure if I am a big supporter of the poisoning either!!!!! Hard to control what all gets into the poison as well! We have a alot of wild dogs running around here as well. Had a small group running the heck out of the deer this summer! I've never shot a dog, not sure if I could, but I know something has to be done about them!
Guest Andrea
Re: Dumb dogs Irresponsible dog owners are to blame. ( Unless they are wild) Can't tell you how many times I've had a hunt screwed up because of this. Can't hunt my favorite spot anymore, it's become such a problem. SSS is all you can do. hunterfisherman
Re: Dumb dogs ONly had this happen once and I didn't have to shoot. They went buy my stand on their own. If they are a threat then you have to do what you have to do

About 3 weeks ago 2 beagles came to where I park my truck & watched me get my gear & stuff. They then followed me half way to one of my stands. I kept trying to shoo them away until I picked up a piece of clumped mud & threw it at them. They left. Last week I went to check on my food plots & the same 2 dogs followed me to the plots & I had to hit one with a stick. It was a small branch, nothing to seriously injure him. They took off, haven't seen them since.
wtnhunt
Re: Dumb dogs Had a dog follow me once after I was out, was my parents black lab, and he tracked me I guess. I had laid down a scent trail with tinks dominant buck urine. Later that morning while the dog was laying down about 40 yards out in front of my stand and after me giving up on shooing him off, my first and the best buck I have ever killed snuck in behind me.
