cwillard
Hey everyone, A couple of days ago some guys poached a buck on someones land. They shot the buck and decided to come back for it the next day. Well the guy who owned the land found it dead in with his cattle before the guys came back to get the head. He called the wardens and by the time they got their the guys were back getting the head. The land owner took a few shots at them but they were to far. The wardens chased them but they only caught one, (THE TRUCK OWNER,) the other three took off running in the woods. The one they caught was drunk and high on dope. They took his truck and the weapons he had with him. My family owns a house and some land close by and this really disappoints me considering this place has always been on of my favorite vacation and hunting spots. It also has always been really peaceful and low crime. It really makes me sick how people would do such low things for money and then all they probably would have done with it was get high. Born2Hunt
Re: POACHERS I can't believe the land owner shot at these guys and he didn't get arested. Dumb criminals and even dumber land owner. With todays lawsuits he could have lost everything over a dead deer!
tp793
Re: POACHERS I had to re-read that a few times to fully get it. The landowner SHOT at people!? Thats unbelievable!! I understand being upset over a deer and pretty angry, but enough to take another human life? Bad deal all around, at least the guy got caught. drkillemquick
Re: POACHERS Wow, I could just imagine the land owner shooter at them. I think that is something in the back of our heads we would love to do, but just wouldn't. I can just see it now the idiot gets a slap on the wrist and a fine for poaching, and the landowner goes away for hard time for attempted murder! Glad they caught the driver, hopefully the owner doesn't shoot at any more poachers. I know I get frustrated with law inforcement agencies and the courts but if you do stuff like that you are worse than the poacher!
horst
Re: POACHERS I can see a far worse case scenario then the landowner shooting a poacher. Here we have a law that if you have a wounded animal that crosses the property line you can go after them if you do it without a weapon.Suppose the landowner shot a guy that was trying to recover a legally shot deer instead of a poacher. It just sets a bad precedent not to impose some sort of punishment on him, Im not saying the poachers were in the right but what the landowner did could have far greater consequences. If people start taking the law into thier own hands it makes the sport a lot more dangerous for everyone. wtnhunt
Re: POACHERS [ QUOTE ] The land owner took a few shots at them but they were to far. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, ticked or not that is just plain stupid. I have been so furious I could spit nails, but have never been so driven that I could risk taking anothers life and over a deer???? Unfortunately, most of us can relate to problems with poachers. They make me sick, and wish they woulld give them more serious penalties than they do, but I would never shoot at anyone, unless it was a situation where it to the extent that it was my life a family member or friend mine or theirs. cwillard
Re: POACHERS Sorry everyone I must have accidentally left some stuff out. He shot with a shotgun to scare the people, not to harm them, and the spot where they were was at the edge of the pasture right by his back yard. Sorry again I was half asleep when I wrote the post. drkillemquick
Re: POACHERS Well I think he was lucky! Hopefully you consider our comments next time this happens, because unfortunately it probably will! Call the DNR or police and let them handle it. By the way welcome to the forum! AdvantageTimberLou
Re: POACHERS Sounds like bunch of losers in my book, hope they catch all those poachers. I wouldn't be shooting at them though, remember they poached a deer and they too have a weapon, call the DNR or police, do not, do not start shooting at them, especially when they appeared to be drunk and high on dope!! Guest TnLadyhunter
Re: POACHERS Oh my I don't know where to begin with poacher problems! Poaching is unbelievaly bad here! I actually know a guy who has poached more than 30 125 or better bucks and still isn't doing any time. I went in his house once when I was young and asked where all the horns tossed over behind the couch and all over the walls came from. He went into story after story of spotlighting or whatever. He road hunts with and without a light. I didn't hunt at the time and was sickened by all the stories. My family and I no longer associate with him. He has been caught and let off so many times it is rediculous. I just can't understand. In early August he shot a 150 class 11 point in velvet before season opened. A friend of mine had been watching the buck for me and heard the shot. He called it in and nothing come of it. An friend of mine who works with his wife said she was bragging about it and even had pictures!! Unbelievable right!

cwillard
Re: POACHERS This has nothing to do with the poaching post really, but it is more about taking the law in your own hands. A while back my younger brother was hanging out at our bowling alley with some of his friends when he was accused of spilling coke on one of our neighbors truck. The neighbor came out of the bowling alley and was cusing my brother and they were both yelling when the 40 something year old neighbor grabbed my brother (a minor) by the neck and threw him to the ground. That same night the neighbors wife came to my parents house and told my farther what had happened. She said someone had seen my brother do it but she and her husband were inside. We filed charges against him for this and for a harrassing phone call. Today they had the court meeting and the judge called the neighbor, his wife, and their witness to the stand. He listened to them and everyone of them had a different story. Neighbor said my brother threw the coke at the truck and his wife said she caught my brother grinding the can into the paint. They called my brother to the stand and he told his story. Then they called my father to the stand and they asked him some stuff but they didn't let him tell about the wife coming and telling us what happened. They sent him back to the witnesses room and told him he would have a chance to come back out. (They never brought him back out.) The judge cut off both of my brothers witnesses and would not let them tell everything. He said he knew that no body would agree with his decision but he found the neighbor not guilty and even though my brother was a minor, the neighbor was only protecting his property. Everyone was shocked and they all said that if it would have been a trail by jury then the neighbor would have been found guilty. This same neighbor is also being charged for molestation and is supposedly getting off of those charges also. WHAT A MESSED UP POLITICAL SYSTEM WE HAVE.
