otdrzmn04
the husband of a woman i work with lost his footing when coming down from his tree last night. he had screw in steps which i dont recommend and his foot slip off and down he went. he suffered a gash from one of the steps about 10" long and 1" deep that went from his chest cross ways to his collar bone. he landed on his left foot that now looks like a softball but not broken......just a reminder to everyone to be careful when hunting from stands especially when ascending and descending!!! OJR
Re: tree stand accident!!!! Glad he is going to be OK! I have never used a tree stand and never will! Those things are the most dangerous part of hunting now! You can shoot just as many deer from the ground!

LETMGROW
Re: tree stand accident!!!! This is why I switched to well built, commercially built stands. These screw in steps are an accident waiting to happen. Spend the bucks now and enjoy the hunt. I've had a stand for a while in a tree with a homemade ladder I thought was really safe. This fall I climbed up the ladder jumping on each step to check its soundness. Yep, you guessed it, one of the steps broke. Luckily I was prepared for the problem, I had a good hold of the ladder and no harm came from the broken step. The ladder is now a part of my shooting range. The stand itself will be vacant the rest of the season! When it comes to tree stands, Wood is NO GOOD!!!
Dogg6
Re: tree stand accident!!!! Glad to hear he is ok. The only thing the crank in steps are good for is hanging your bow on.

Ravin R10 man
Re: tree stand accident!!!! I use screw in steps on all my set ups... SO FAR..never had a problem. I always keep both hands on the steps before moving my feet, that way I can catch myself should I slip.

Newarcher
Re: tree stand accident!!!! Wow....forget screw in tree steps. I read an article where a guy was almost down and decided to jump the rest of the way. Caught his wedding ring on one and tore his finger off. Countless impalement injuries with those things...no thanks! New

That's the only part I don't like about treestands... getting up and down. Glad he's doing okay.
