Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread

Luke, that CD was in my computer and I will send it to you.

And about that jacket. Have you ever thought someone grabbed it and threw it away because it was dark camo and ugly? Send me your size and I will make sure that it is replaced with the correct "Hunter's uniform."

To be honest, you losing it was a good thing. S

Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread

That jacket was ugly anyway Luke grin.gif...but then, so are my boots...LOL wink.gif

I hate a thief too Luke. Seems like there are folks that just walk around watching for everyone/anyone to drop their guard for 2 seconds so they can help themselves. mad.gif

And Steve B....what's this I hear about you grabbing only one side of the antlers and helping to pull it out. That's a bit out of character for you, isn't it. Heck, a guy like you should be able to handle a little Elk all by his lonesome grin.gif

Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread

If you think the jacket deal was bad you should have seen my NEW Rifle case,,, by the time it got to the Airport here in Vermont it had a large gash in the top of it that just missed the scope.... mad.gifcrazy.gifcrazy.gif,,, THANKFULLY, the rifle didn't get damaged and DELTA is going good on that deal....PHEW...

But like I said earlier, I would do this again in a HEARTBEAT, getting to meet the people that were there was just a pleasure, and I had an awsome time, Steve B. and Scott H. made sure everyone was taken care of first class.... wink.gif

I can't wait for snapper to tell you all about his Elk and how everything transpired.... wink.gifsmile.gif

Forgot to mention Silvertip Co. (Charlie) .... He made sure we all had a great spot to setup and that made for a easy camp setup.... Especially the water lugging deal... Thanks Charlie for a great time... cool.gifsmile.gif

Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread

Yeah, Charlie did a great scouting job. Thanks Charlie.

The camp was in a spot, I figured the elk would be using. It was a natural funnel from the timber to the north to the timber to the south. Every time I stepped out of the tent, I was expecting to see game.

We did have a few elk cut up in the timber behind camp there. I saw the tracks when I went fishing up-stream, but they were at least 24 hrs old. Just like the ones down the road there. Those elk must have moved through during the night, before the snow.

I can't wait to herar the story. I also hope snapper and Pudd had a safe journey home.

Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread

Well...got everything unpacked...had an adventure of a ride home, but everything and us are safe, just took a little longer.

Ok, the story on the elk...Steve B. took me, Jeff, and Pete to a spot (little hard on the truck...lol). When we got out of the truck...me, Pete, and Jeff looked at each other hoping we were gonna wait til dark from this vantage point....WRONG! We are going up!

Well we started up this mountain...got to a spot for a break (there were many). Someone asked how much further...Steve's reply was "We're about 1/2 way". (found out later he lied!!!!!!!)

At that point, Jeff and Pete said go on with out them. So Steve lead the way up the mountain like a freakin' mt. goat (with house slippers on wink.gif )! I wanted to quit as well at one point...Steve reassured me that I can make it.

Long story short...we finally got to the top (around 13,000 ft.) and came back down about 200 yards to get a good advantage point.

It was cold on the mountain and Steve and I were starting to get very chilly.

Well, about an hour before dark...my bull steps out around 200 yards. First shot, he hit the ground and I got scoped...lol. He was back up in a min. or two and shot again...he stumbled, Steve said shoot again. Third shot he went down hard...handshakes and high fives were in order. I couldn't thank Steve enough!!!!!!

We picked up our gear and started for the elk...around 100 yards away...he gets up again! Steve says shoot again...I put two more rounds through the gun before he fell for good.

Running short on time...Steve offered to gut him. I would have like to do it...but an animal of that size would have taken me longer than I knew Steve could. Getting the elk down wasn't "too" bad...he (the elk) slid and/or rolled as much as we could. The last couple of hundred yards were tough...Steve suggested we cut him in half and come back tom. morning since we were running out of light.

Here are a couple of pics of the elk...I can't thank Steve enough for his help on taking this animal. I really don't know if I could have gotten one without his help!

BTW SteveB...maybe you should forget to pack a lunch, forget the right coat and wear your house slippers more often! Thanks a ton!

Camp was great...we had a great time!

Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread

Snapper, isn't kidding poor Steve B. left camp without lunch, his hunting jacket, and most of all his boots.... grin.gifgrin.gif

Snapper neglected to tell you all just how steep this mountian face that they climbed was.... lets just say the mountian goats would have found an easier path to follow.... smirk.gifsmirk.gif The pitch angle was so great that it totally took all of snappers eye relief from his scope and he got nailed pretty darn good on that first shot,, but still managed to put that first round right where it was suppose to be.... wink.gifwink.gif

GREAT JOB, snapper and again CONGRATS on a Trophy Elk.. cool.gif

Here's a couple more of snappers super huge 5X5..
