ousoonerfan22
Is this a good deer bullet? Federal premium has a load in the .270 with a 140 gr trophy bonded bear claw pushing 3100 fps.
OJR
Re: trophy bonded bear claw bullet? Sure they are great bullets! Expensive but a good bullet! There are a lot of other ones out there that are much cheaper and will do the job just as good!!
AJ
Re: trophy bonded bear claw bullet? Its a good sturdy bullet, but not necessarily needed for deer. At the .370 Wincheter's modest velocity, you will do just finie with a standard bullet. Deer are not that hard to kill or fully penetrate. If you have to have speed, look at the Light Mag that Hornady offers. Of course, that extra speed will mean nothing till you get past 300 yards or so. ousoonerfan22
Re: trophy bonded bear claw bullet? Yes,I checked out the hornady load 140 gr btsp and it's also pushing 3100. Probably overkill but I like them to shoot flat. Is the .270 a little light for elk?

WABS
Re: trophy bonded bear claw bullet? I agree -- you go out west and most outfitters want to see that .30 cal come out of your case, but you sure see a lot of proof of .270 being plenty capable. AJ
Re: trophy bonded bear claw bullet? A 270 Win in the hands of a shooter that knows its ballistics and can shoot is better than a 338 Win Mag if the shooter flinches or does not shoot it much. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: trophy bonded bear claw bullet? Bear claw for deer-----NO. They were designed for big boned animals-------elk & up. 270 Win for elk------sure--I know alot of hunters here in Colorado use it. Personally, I use an 30/06 with 180 grain bullets-------I use standard bullets------I use the Hornady "Spire-point" with the interlock ring now. I handload them----nothing "hot"-----just normal factory stuff. Not problem one with any animal I've shot----from elk to antelope & everything in between. Sounds like you want to try & get your rifle to shoot a little flater. Try the Hornady 'Light Mags'------but then use a chromograph & comprae them to the standard loads. I really don't think you'll see enough of a difference between the two. Of I have a 22" barrel on my 700. CB
