I was just wondering if others were starting to see some chasing bucks? I've been out twice this week and both nights have seen a doe or does being chased by a buck. One of which almost ran over me in a cut cornfield as I was exiting my property...I thought I might have had to attempt (it was very dusk) to take a shot out of self-defense...the buck stopped within 10 yards of me stompin and throwin his head...then after a brief 15 sec stare down continued on following the does. WE don't have a real intense or "concentrated" rut here in SC, but there has been an increase in "rutting activity" over the last two weeks for sure. On Oct. 13th I watched a small 4 point "bump" a doe all around me for about 5-7 minutes. He was all over that doe. Then on the 14th I sat the same area and used "The Can" to call in a decent public land 8 point. He came in with his head on a swivle looking for the "doe" he thought he heard. His neck was all swollen and his tarsals were black as coal and stinking. I talked to the folks that own the property I hunt on in western Kentucky this morning and they said they're starting to see young bucks "chasing" but the big boys haven't got rolling yet. I update everweekend. To answer your question, yeah! I saw bucks chasing this weekend. We will be in full swing in about 2 weeks. Usually it happens kinda quick here. A couple of weeks ago I saw my first scrape and rub, the next weekend I heard fighting and there were scrapes and rubs everywhere. Prime Rut is about a week away around here. Nov 7th-20th is when we see the most rut activity usually. I'm hoping the weather calms down around here so I can get out after those big bucks we have been watching all summer!! Two of them are dead already.
