Guest IllinoisMackDaddyHunter
i live in central illinois and going to Pike county Illinois Nov.10-13 Anyone got any suggestion on how to scout Friday morning and hunt that afternoon - monday. This property butts up to Rod-House-Rut and Strut. !86 acres to be exact and no-one hunts it . Got aerial topo maps on line. Some suggestions would be appreciated. There are some monster-bucks around there. Hunt of a life time for me, especially since people travel and pay thousands to hunt outfitters around that area. thanks and good hunting

Guest Mathews_Pa_Bowhunter
Re: Hunting In Illinois Hey Chaz, i hunted in pike co ill last year from 11/10/05 to 11/20/05. it was my first time on the property then too. I had a topo map, found a general area that i wanted to hunt from there and i climbed up a tree in the morning with my climber and around 11 /12 i moved where i was seeing some deer movement. that I evening i ratteled in a nice buck, i didn't get a shot, 40 yards and straight on shot. good luck to you
Guest cornbread
Re: Hunting In Illinois That should be around the peak breeding to the tail end of the rut. I would find a spot that I could see a good ways the first evening and see if I could pin point where the does are coming from and then set up closer. Just be sure that you watch the wind. All you need is one hot doe in the area and you should see some quality bucks. I just got back from Pike county monday and will be leaving again this coming thursday. It should be good with a lot of chasing going on. Good luck on your hunt and kill a big one
brownie65
Re: Hunting In Illinois You are going to be here at a great time. They will be running hard. Hard to tell you anything without knowing anything about your ground. I would just give it a quick runover Friday morning & see what looks good & get set up. Is there picked corn fields, food plots, mostly timber. These things you will have to look at to help decide. You can do a quick lookover Friday morning & have a pretty good idea of where to go. During those dates you will see a buck just about anywhere. They will be moving & will come in fast. You are liable to be sitting there seeing nothing & a buck & doe will come running. They cover lots of ground in a short period of time.Hunt all day you can see a buck at anytime during the day. Good Luck..
Guest Illinois1958
Re: Hunting In Illinois Look for natural funnels in the topography. If there is a river or stream on the property try to find a spot where it intersects a ridge line or crop field. These are natural funnels or bottlenecks.
