HarvDog
A buddy of mine is considering a 380. He really likes the compactness. What recommendations do folks have?

Strut10
Re: Recommendations on a 380 There are 9mm's out there that are on nearly the same frame size as the .380. The 9mm offers more power and cheaper ammo. Actually..........you can get a good number of .40 S&W's in about the same sized pistol as many .380's. popgun
Re: Recommendations on a 380 If your friend is set on a .380, I’d recommend the Colt Mustang. This is the Colt Mustang .380 This is the Mustang with a +2 magazine. It gives a little better grip for someone with larger hands and allows 2 more cartridges. ….popgun
WNY_Whitetailer
Re: Recommendations on a 380 I'd vote for the Kel-Tec P3AT...You'd be hard pressed to find another semi-auto that is as compact as that little 380.
Guest Clay008
Re: Recommendations on a 380 That is a tiny pistol. How does a the .380's size above compare to a snub nose revolver?
popgun
Re: Recommendations on a 380 Ok….Here is a size comparison between the Smith & Wesson .38 Special, Chief Special, and the Colt Mustang .380. The .38 holds 5 shells and the Mustang holds 7 + 1 chambered, or 6 total without the + magazine. The .38 Special actually carries better than the Mustang because most of the weight of the shells is centered. The weight of the shells is in the grip of the Mustang causing it not to hug quite as closely to the body. The type of holster can also make a big difference. I hope this helps. ….popgun

HarvDog
Re: Recommendations on a 380 Those definitely are smaller than I expected. I'm certainly gonna work on talking him into at least a 9mm. Thanks!
hangunnr
Re: Recommendations on a 380 Had a Colt 380.......nice little piece. I traded mine off for a Walther PPKs. The PPKs fit my hand a little better. Kinda wish I still had both...... hangunnr
Guest Xen
Re: Recommendations on a 380 my inlaws had a kel-tec p3at - i hated it. it was not something you would want to go do some practice with. get him to go out and get an XD like yours, just tell him to get the 3" sub-compact version. or he could look at a kahr pm-40 i guess if he's set on a .380, i'd either go with the walther ppk or the beretta 84f - the walther is thinner than the beretta, the beretta has about twice the mag capacity of the walther
johnf
Re: Recommendations on a 380 I've heard that the kel-tec is a very good backup, but that it's light weight makes the recoil really bad and that the trigger cuts into your finger. It hasn't come very highly recomended as a primary carry gun. I would also look at the Bersa 380. It's about the same as the walther, but costs a lot less. Reviews are not great, but ok.
