Guest ryan
Hey, does anyone know how people get the money to complete the super slam. Do most people who want to complete the super slam go on self guided hunts in national forests or do they go on all guided hunts? I just don't understand how they get the money to do this. nhbowhunter
Re: how do they afford the super slam? Well there are a number of different ways to afford it. Here are some of my hypothesis and what I do: 1. They are already tied into the hunting industry as a guide or outfitter, publisher, writer, etc and in part some of the cost is deductible. 2. They are close to those in the industry and they get breaks. 3. They have enough money and vacations to do it and they sacrifice and make choices (this is probably a big one). 4. Independently wealthy or own their own business or are big wigs in a company that gives them time and money. 5. Any combo of the above. I just started, hunting and fishing outside of New England this year (not doing the super slam but maybe one day), I did Alaska, next year I am hoping for Kansas, Iowa, or Missouri. Here is what I do. Worked my butt off. Climbed the job ladder. Along with saving for a house, retirement, etc I have set aside a fund earmarked for hunting/fishing only. $200 - $400 a month goes into it (I am very fortunate to be able to do it) and it is direct deposit. It is a tdameritrade stock fund so I try and maximize my returns. Mind you I don't have millions but I do earn/save enough to afford a 5 day hunt in a different state a year (assuming an average cost of $3,000 - $5,000 for a guided or semi-guided trip). There are many different ways to fund yor hunting. For most of us I think we save, save, save some more, and sacrifice on other things. It has taken me 15 years to get to a point where I can hunt outside of New England with outfitters.

I work my butt off and comp a lot of my overtime for extra days off and give up doing a few other things I enjoy doing, but it's worth it in the long run.I don"t do the super slam but I enjoy the hunting I do get to do. Leo
Re: how do they afford the super slam? Honestly, I don't know how any one affords the hunting they do. I just know how I afford the hunting I do. If you make it a priority, you will find a way. Just like buying a house or truck. It's what else you want in life that dictates what those are.
