bdboy53
Can anyone tell me what the NYS record is for a goose? I shot a banded goose about 3 hours ago and its over 14lbs. I know some other states have larger ones im sure, but I was wondering about NY. Thank you BDBOY53

Palssonater
Re: NYS RECORD GOOSE? Although thats a big monster(don't you love the way they bounce when they are that big??) I know there are records where Branta Major(Large Canada Goose) has topped the scales at over 20lbs!

rbduck
Re: NYS RECORD GOOSE? Don`t know if this is true or not but I heard somewhere that the record for largest Canada ever shot was a 26lber. Can`t remember where it was though. Bow Hunter Derek
Re: NYS RECORD GOOSE? Big geese rumors are a dime a dozen. Not doubting you shot a 14 pounder, but they rarely come much bigger then that. Don't believe me? Go over to the refuge forums for a look. There used to be all these ridiculous claims of 18#, 20#, and larger geese. Well for three years now, the owner of DropZone decoys has offered up 1 dozen full bodies to the person who can produce a legitimate monster goose. Two years ago it was an 18 pounder, last year a 17 pounder, this year 16 pounder. No one has yet to claim the dekes. Next year it will go to 15 pounds and maybe ... just maybe ... a dozen decoys will go out. Goose has to be weighed on a certified scale. I seriously doubt you'll see a 20# wild goose. Maybe a farm fed pet goose, but not a true Canada honker. I shot a 13.5 pounder this year that was a horse of a goose. I can't imagine what a 20 pounder would be like, if it were possible to exist. Guest Hunter36
Re: NYS RECORD GOOSE? Last summer I trapped geese for an agency and even in the summer when they couldnt fly we had adults that were over 12 pounds. My boss who knows his geese, since he's been doin it for more than a couple decades, said that some of those adults would easily gain around five pounds before migration time. That would put them right at 17lbs. or larger. No doubt a 20lber is out there!!! But I dont think it is extremely common.

[/ QUOTE ] Yea it is amazing how many giant geese there are out there until the money is on the line and funny how no one can produce one. I have killed a bunch of geese over the years and I thought I had dropped the holly grail of geese this year when I shot my biggest. I couldn't believe it when the scale read 13.5 pounds. I thought for sure those DropZones were mine when I first picked him up. It takes A LOT of goose to get to 16 or more pounds ... if it is even possible. coles
Re: NYS RECORD GOOSE? the swan i shot last year was26lbs. i cant imaging a goose that big. my swan had a 7 1/2 foot wingspan too. you should have seen the splash when it hit the water. my dog had to drag it back by the neck.
