Re: best day ever!!

t abotu 9.30 I went to a draw that runs for about a mile into farmland and is only about 30 -50 yards wide, hold coyotes usually, I got toa hill and started with a few yips and a couple invitation howls, waited for a couple then went into a distress call with a parker predator call open reed, waited 5 minutes and started up again with a few distress calls, before I was done my sequence I spotted 2 coyotes runnign the far side of the draw to me,I got out a squeeker and started up each time they stopped and one crested a knoll at 100 yards I dropped him pulled on the second and grabbed the howler and yipped, he stopped at 150 yards, he was doing backflips, I knew it was a good shot, then i spotted another coyote standing across the valley,I got 2 shots at him and missed, I found out later he was a bit farther than I thought, I was not complaining, 2 coyotes! next stand was a mile away and I never got doen the first sequence and one was boltign across the sloug bottom I was calling,I got him at 75 yards, I then went to a farmers to ask about callign a pasture behind his yard,he said no prob and told me were he has seen them, I drove 500 yards parked and started the 500 yard or so walk to call, first finger I came to a coyote ran out, there was number 4 for the day, next 2 stands were nothing, now it was 11.30 and I decided to call a long draw that is about 500 yards across, within 20 seconds one popped the knoll at 40 yards, number 5 I started a wounded pup sound and within 5 minutes ahd 2 more runnign the draw towards me, I could not convince them to come in,finally one gave me a standing 300 ayrd shot and I hit her perfect, number 6 by 12.30,I decided in the ehat to coem home and skin them so they would not start to slip,I got doen at about 3 and went out again, first stand ahd a fox foolign around at 400 ayrds, was coming in perfect thenstopped and took off, no idea what was going on till I looked to my right and a coyote was sittign on a hill,I convinced him to come right inless than 50 yards, couple more stands nothing but I am not sure with all the geese flying thta a coyote could hear the calls lol! finally at 5 I got to a favorite hotspot and no luck,I decided to change up a bit and blew the open reed call like a howler to sound like a pup playing with a rabbit, I would bark and short howls and then with the same call move to the back of the reed to get the raspy distress, instantly a big coyote was coming out of a finger 1000 yards or so away, with the pup sounds I brought her to 100 ayrds were she met her end! I was happy I got 8 coyotes and tied my best day i ever ahd a few years back,I decided I had lots of skinnign to ehad home, I got within a mile of town and seen 2 coyotes mousing in a stubble field, lucky me there was a old farmyard right there, I parked the truck walked 50 ayrds to the other side of teh trees and could not see them,I blew a few barks and went to get my distress call ready and instantly one was charging in, he wudl of ran me over if I did not shoot him at less than 40 yards! All In all it was a perfect day I never expect to beat!here are a few pics!

Re: best day ever!!

Thanks sureshot for posting those pictures! I always love when the local guys post pictures of their success. Since deer hunting is closed right now in my area I headed out for chickens today. I seen 8 and shot 5. Just before dark I spotted 2 yotes in a stubble field. I took a shot at one but it was no good. Hopefully next weekend I can dig out my howler and start calling again! How did you do this weekend on the yotes?

Re: best day ever!!

.223 .people swear by the 222-50 and swifts and 204 but if you are after the hides go with a .223, as you can see by the hides virtually no damage, it is good to 300 on chect shots [any more hard to penetrate the shoulder blade if you hit it, ]peopel tell me to save the hides they slow the 22-250 down, slow it down and you just got a .223 with tripple the cost of ammo lol!!
