nutz4bucks
I do alot of coyote hunting with hounds and have a rem.243 now and am not very happy with it's performance. With dogs most yotes are at a dead run,and my 243 and me most times don't get the job done So i went out gun shopping today and found a savage 204 the varmit special.. did not buy yet because i wanted to get some reviews from the RT'ers. What do you think Accu trigger is it really that special??

AJ
Re: 204 QUESTION???? What do you think the 204 will do that the 243 does not? If its a "hitting them" problem, the different gun won't really help. As for the Accu-Trigger, some like them, some don't. I suggest trying them at your local shop. nutz4bucks
Re: 204 QUESTION???? The 243 doesn't shoot flat enough for me. the 204 claims to sight in at 100 yards and be only 2 inches lower at 200 yards moving at 4000-4200 fps thats a far cry from my 2700-3000 fps 243 seems to me there would be no leading on a yote with the 204 at 200 yards. tried the accu trigger and at the store and i guess it is user preference on that feature.. AJ
Re: 204 QUESTION???? Your thinking is a little off. The bullet slows down from the time it exits the muzzle. Here are the numbers: Code: Time Of Flight In Seconds 204 Ruger 243 Win 32 gr 40 gr 58 gr 75 gr 100 0.0764 0.0813 0.0852 0.093 150 0.1191 0.1256 0.1318 0.1432 200 0.165 0.1723 0.1817 0.1959 250 0.2147 0.2221 0.2351 0.2514 300 0.2684 0.3311 0.3528 0.3708 . Trajectory . 100 +1" +1" +1" +1" 150 +1.3" +1.2" +1.1" +0.9" 200 +.09" +.06" +.03" -.02" 250 -.04" -0.9" -1.5" -2.5" 300 -2.8" -3.4" -4.5" -6.0" . Assuming a kill zone of 4" the Max Point Blank Range for zeroing 1" high at 100 yards is . Yards 270 260 250 235 . Assuming a kill zone of 4" the Max Point Blank Range for these loads are: Yards 310 300 290 275 Zero @100 +1.5" +1.5" +1.6" +1.7" Now, assuming a coyote is running 25 miles per hour, which translates to ~36 fps, it can cover 71" in the time it takes the .204 Ruger's 32 gr bullet to cover 200 yards. The 243 with the 75 gr bullet will allow the coyote to cover 84" in the time it takes the bullet to reach it at 200 yards.
