bigbucks
does the wind matter during the rut? we've been having poopy weather but i know the rut starting what should i do?
husker
Re: does the wind matter? i always try to hunt with the wind blowing away from where i think the deer will come from. the only problem is during the rut bucks can appear anywhere. but i would set up with the wind blowing away from the deer and have some sort of cover scent (like estrus or plain doe urine) down wind of you to cover your scent from that direction. nutz4bucks
Re: does the wind matter? Idon't think the wind plays a hoot in were deer are going except for bucks cruising looking for hot does.
Tominator
Re: does the wind matter? In the heat of the rut, I don't think it matters much, I've seen does run on pretty windy days. Might be a good day to go stalk the corn.
GWSmith
Re: does the wind matter? IMHO...IT MATTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right now I can gaurantee almost every Doe in my hunting area is in an area where they are at least somewhat sheltered from the wind. We are experiencing a sustained 30MPH wind right now with even higher Gusts!!! IF the Rut was going on right now here...I'd Know exactly where to go and sit. Probably would not have to sit for long either before I saw deer. Probably would not get the chance to even sit down before I had a deer to put a stalk on! I've honestly never seen a Buck hold a hot Doe out in the open during high winds. I've seen them chase a Doe acrossed an opening...but their headed into another sheltered area. Find a spot that is sheltered from the winds and you'll find Does. Find the Does during the Rut....you better have your release hooked on the string because "BoneHead" is not far behind
woodsman2230
Re: does the wind matter? YES!!! Even tho bucks arent as careful they still will smell you and does are always careful.
Leo
Re: does the wind matter? Ignore the wind at your own peril. Regardless, of time of year. You will always do better paying attention to the wind
wtnhunt
Re: does the wind matter? Yep, it still matters imo. Deer particularly bucks do get stupid when the rut is kicking in, but the does may still keep it together enough that if they wind you they may not come around and bring the bag in tow. bowtech
Re: does the wind matter? In my opinion wind always matters .even with the scent lok suits it is best to try and have ccorrect wind conditions whenever possible.

shockwave
Re: does the wind matter? Normally if you either you use a grunt tube or doe estrus scent a buck is going to come in on the downwind side of you, my 2 cents
