popgun
I would like to hunt with my Ruger New Super Blackhawk .44 mag. But I have to use a scope. Does this model have to be drilled and tapped to attach a scope mount , rings & scope? This is a closer shot of the top of the iron sites. At the present time I am doing all my handgun hunting with the Desert Eagle, w/10” barrel and 2x EER Burris scope. Would I be better off trading the New Super Blackhawk for one of the newer models that is already “scope ready”? Would I ruin any of the value of the Ruger if I had it drilled and tapped? AJ?..... Hangunnr?.....Anyone?.... Thanks ….popgun
hangunnr
Re: ? About Drilling and Tapping: Your Ruger ia a pretty common gun. There isn't really any collector value so altering it isn't much of a concern. B-Square used to offer a clamp on type mount but I've heard they won't hold a scope very well. Brownells offers a drill and tap mount made for your revolver. Most 'smiths I know charge per hole for a drill and tap, usually running $10-$15 per hole. If it were me...... I'd save the Ruger as it is and go ahead and find a SB Hunter in stainless for scoping..... hangunnr
popgun
Re: ? About Drilling and Tapping: I'm sorry hangunnr, but I'm not very good with initials. That SB Hunter you are speaking of........ I always thought that SB stood for Southern Baptist. I don't guess that is what you are talking about, so what is an SB Hunter? ....popgun
hangunnr
Re: ? About Drilling and Tapping: Sorry popgun...... SB Hunter or SBH means Super Blackhawk Hunter.... Can be had with either the Bisley grip or the standard grip frame. Meant to ask....... What caliber is your Desert Eagle? hangunnr
popgun
Re: ? About Drilling and Tapping: Thanks hangunnr. "I see said the blind man." The desert Eagle is a .44 mag and shoots like the recoil is on hydraulics. The gas operated slide takes up so much of the recoil there is hardly any comparison to shooting the same caliber in a revolver. I have the standard barrel as well, but bought the 10" barrel just for hunting. Thanks again for the advice. ....popgun
