What do we do now?

Well, for most of us, our deer seasons are wrapping up. For some of us, our focus turns to work or the holiday seasons, for others... other hobbies, and still for others, we continue our yearly assessment of the whitetails that surround us... Just wondering what some of the forum members due from Mid December through the winter to keep from getting cabin fever. And what whitetail related activities they engage in during the winter months (i.e. shooting leagues, whitetail deer shows, shed hunting ect...) Anyways, enjoy the season, congrats to everyone who was able to engage a successful season and better luck next year, to those who were not.

Re: What do we do now?

I still have a few more days of rifle season left, then I have a two week archery or muzzelloader season that starts after Xmas.

After this we hopefully will have ice and I will be doing some hardcore ice fishing

After this I will shoot the bow and get ready for 3d season, and wait for the spring months to arrive so I can hammer the fish out on the boat.

Re: What do we do now?

I was thinking the same thing. These go-to-work and come-home-from-work in the dark nights suck. I've killed 3 deer with a bow, so I don't need anymore deer. What I'm doin next week is go chase some hogs for a couple days in the SC mountains (hills). Christmas break will be a good time also. In Jan and Feb is when I scout new deer hunting areas and hog/squirrel hunt. The turkey comes in Apr or May. But once 1 Jan comes, I start pounding the target butt to get ready for 3D's.

The Pa. rifle season ends Saturday. The Monday after Christmas, late archery and flintlock and small game seasons come in-I'll be taking the flinter out.February is the outdoor show in Harrisburg,Pa-I usually go to that.I try to get some winter trout fishing in with the flyrod.I build arrows for the upcoming shoots and start to shoot the bow in early Feb. weather permitting.

Re: What do we do now?

I have a suggestion for everybody. After all the seasons are completed, why not pick up an electronic game caller and go out and shoot some coyotes. It'll get you off the couch, get you some exercise, and help out your local deer herd a bit. It's also a good excuse to dig that old rifle out and put it to some good use.

That's what I am going to do.

Re: What do we do now?

wisbowhntr, yeah, I bow hunt, but have already taken my share of deer this year, 2 w/ bow, 1 w/ rifle, and 1 w/ shotgun, and the wife took a buck, so needless to say, I don't need anymore deer. As far as deer seen in WI. The bow season was real slow, gun was even slower. I saw 2 deer opening morining of the gun season. I can't help but believe that WI deer numbers are significantly down. Hopefully get some snow so I can chase some yotes. Best of luck.

Re: What do we do now?

For me, I am already making plans for adjustments, new stand sites, ground blinds, improvement to old stand site, food plots, etc. Although I will not do anything until warmer weather. Its ALWAYS running threw my mind on how to improve my chances for deer hunting.

As for what keeps me busy?

Catch up on family time, Ice fishing, and PlayStation 2...
