Hoyt03
I had to go pick up some meat from the butcher from my doe a week or so ago today after work, I got off at 4. I figured with the time change I would not have anytime to hunt so my bow stayed at home. Picked up my stuff from the butcher and my sisters place is on the way home so I figured I'd go sit in one of my stands for a few moments to do some scouting. Was going to sit in the stand along the property line but the neighbor was in his stand which also isnt far from the property line, so I went and sat in my other stand along the creek 100 yards or so away. 20 minutes later I hear a loud crack and a deer running towards me like crazy. I was thinking great the neighbor just smoked one. The deer made to the creek bed my stand was along and I was waiting to for it to go down then I was going to assist the neighbor(this was our property now) well needless to say he missed and this deer(nice 8pt I've been after) came right down the creek bed right into my shooting lane at 12 yards and I'm sitting there with no bow. I have been hunting hard all season and have yet to see a good buck, only does, and to have this happen to me tonight just makes me sick. I think I may have just blown my best chance this year to tag this deer, and it would have been by pureluck. Man am I bummed, from this day on the bow will stay in the backseat all through hunting season

woodsman2230
Re: Worst luck ever I had a similar experience....the last day of the bow season two years ago I decided to take a turkey instead of hunting for deer in the afternoon and sure enough a P&Y 10 pt walks up, stands there and stares at me from 5 yards and I have a shotgun instad of a bow. Man is it a horrible feeling. I feel ya man.
Guest nyhunter24
Re: Worst luck ever isn;t that the way it always works, when your actually hunting you never see em but when your scouting or taking a hike they are always there. jbeck
Re: Worst luck ever Dont get down Hoyt 03, You probably didn't want to hurt the poor deer, that is why you didn't take your bow with you. LMBOROF, WHAT WHERE YOU THINKING. I'm going to fly home tomorrow, then I'm coming down and kick your butt. By the way I'll get in touch with you about the turkey hunting next week, maybe come up to the house and we'll hit them in the morning. I'll call when I get back to Pa. C-ya soon My friend. [/ QUOTE ] I get off work at 4 and the butcher shop is 30 minutes away and closes at 4:30. It gets dark here now around 5:20, so I did not have time to go home and get my bow and really didnt think I'd have any daylight left after going to the butchers. My sisters place is only 8 minutes from the butcher shop and I have a trail cam there so around 5 I go walking out there to check my cam and decide to sit in my stand for the last 20 minutes of daylight(without the bow) 10 minutes later was when the neighbor shot and missed and this guy came under me. He is a very educated buck after last night but i have a feeling he will be back. He has a nice rubline in the area, and the best part is I moved my camera last night after checking it and I think I got this deer on film after he was shot at by the neighbor, he ran right by the camera. Jbeck, hope things are going good out in Montana, give me a buzz when you get back I would love to chase some birds soon. I think I blew my chance for a buck this archery season, but you can bet I'll be in that stand everynight this week, oh yeah with the bow this time. [/ QUOTE ] Yep! Scouting without a weapon ENDS on Opening Day [/ QUOTE ] Darn right! If I decide to stop the jeep and walk 20 yards over to a creek bank and check it for tracks, I carry a weapon. I've seen and heard of way too many cases of people seeing monster bucks during the season and for one reason or another they won't have their bow or gun with them. Ain't gonna happen to me!
