Re: Goose Hunter Killed by farmer

That's terrible!

[ QUOTE ]

Johnson was using an SKS 7.62x39-cal. rifle with open sights and no magnifying scope. The weapon is a popular rifle for target or varmint shooting and not generally used for big-game hunts.

At least they got that right.

Man thats awful! What in the world was that guy thinking! Number one if you have it leased dont fling lead at the birds your getting payed for. Number two, why in the world would you fling lead from a rifle?

If he was truly trying to scare the birds why didn't he just point at the ground in front of him? It was the noise that would supposedly run off the birds, not the impact of the lead.

"Torgerson was lying inside a large decoy manufactured to serve as an individual hunting blind, with narrow slits cut to watch for approaching geese."

Unless the poor guy that got killed was only about 18" tall there shouldn't have been any doubt that the 5' long decoy he was layin in wasn't a goose. Makes me wonder if there was a little more to this story than the shooter is willing to tell.

Re: Goose Hunter Killed by farmer

What the farmer did was wrong but in actual fact a highpowered rifle does scare geese off fields way better than a shotgun or birdscare cannons-the farmers here do it all the time. In fact though what the farmer did was no more dangerous than roadhunters flinging lead at a deer running across or standing in a farm field -neither guy was sure what was behind him. It is just such a tragic deal for all involved.
