MrWiggely
Re: taking the shot depends on how comfortable you were with the shot. If you were not confident that you could make it you made the right call by waiting and letting them go. If you were confident you could have made the shot, Im sure you would have. Guest samueljm
Re: taking the shot Its all personal opinion and confidence. Am I comfident to shoot out to 40 yards, yes but i wont. Ive attempted shots from there and hit them right where they are supposed to go but i dont get penetration. I stick to under 30 but if you have practiced and you have a nice bow by all means go ahead and lay them out
Guest archer8030
Re: taking the shot I can hold a pie plate at 50 yards but have never taken a shot over 35 yards. I consider my level of comfort at that range, shot angle, and the mood of the deer before taking a shot.
wtnhunt
Re: taking the shot Dont know honestly if I would take a shot at 40 yards or not. Guess it would depend on how I felt about the shot when I drew. If I felt the confidence to make it right then and there, I would probably take the shot. mule659
Re: taking the shot It all depends on how comfortable. I have seen people kill deer in camp at just over 50 and make perfect shots. I say if you are comfortably and confident you can make that shot then let them have it. Just be sure your set up will have to energy for good penetration at those distances. The farthest I have ever shot a deer is 34 yards and my arrow went right through her like she wasn't even there and my best friends who shoots a little milder bow than me had a pass through shot on a buck at 42 yards the following weekend. Just work on making long shots then if you feel good about it in the woods let it fly.
johnf
Re: taking the shot I am very comfortable at 35 yards at home. In a stand it's closer to 20-25. I wouldn't take any shot I wasn't sure of..............again.
Guest lindey
Re: taking the shot i wont shoot over 25 or 30 and i took all the pins out of my sites and set one at 25 yards i want to make sure that i never put myself in a position of q's on how i hit the deer. Stinger-Hunter
Re: taking the shot The real world is a funny thing. I can hit a paper plate repeatedly at 50 yards, but in the two shots i've taken over 40 yards - they were complete misses. Wind drifted one 2 feet to the left and the other one (I forgot to lean forward in my stand) and it sailed over the deers back. i doubt I'll take another shot over 30 yards. Brianxt
Re: taking the shot I can hit the kill zone on 3d target at 50 yds but that is in back yard playing around. I have a 40 yrd pin but have not had to use it so far .like the rest of this guys its all about your confidence.
arrow32
Re: taking the shot I wouldnt have. But it is whatever your own comfort level is shooting and how far you know you can shoot.
tedicast
Re: taking the shot If you even have to ask, then you made the right decision by not shooting.
Tominator
Re: taking the shot Only you can answer that question. This year I'm limiting myself to 30 yards in good light. Next year I'll be back up to 40 yards.
