Guest deldeer
with deer season coming to a close for another season, the" monster buck" has evaded me again. sometimes i wonder if the "deer gods" are punishing me for some odd reason? i have harvested many small 6's & 8's, & a whole lot of does & smaller deer. i have been doing this a long time & i just want one true monster buck. i can take a person, put them in the right location, at the right time & they will get their trophy????.... however when it's me......( big zero) !!!!!!!...... i have tried everything known to mankind to get one. & yes i even play the wind game, scents , bait , & we do have true trophys here also.......o'well just needed to vent a little
Tominator
Re: punished????? well, if it's any consolation, 90% of us hunters go trophyless every year, but that's what it's all about i guess, getting out there and trying. then there's guys like my buddy Ed. 2 minutes into his very first deer hunt, he shoots a 136" right behind the ear. go figure. He told me "The **** things didn't run off, so I kept on shooting em"
Norm Sauceman
Re: punished????? Maybe if you would have let the smaller ones go the big one that was following would have been right behind them?
JimT
Re: punished????? They are being shot by everyone but me also...I feel your pain. Next year!
KirkV
Re: punished????? I agree with norm on this one. This year I let 15 different deer walk by me the first evening, bucks and does before the monster came out. There was only 15 minutes of shooting time left, and there is no doubt in my mind he let them all walk by him to see if the coast was clear! popgun
Re: punished????? deldeer: I know a lot of guys that keep waiting for that "monster buck" till the season is over. They sometimes end up with no venison in the freezer. I will hold one of my buck tags unfilled until late season, but I usually take heavy doe and 2.5 yr. old bucks anytime they present themselves. My freezer is not empty. .....popgun
Doc
Re: punished????? And, you know what? Some nimrod rookie will stumble through the woods and get that monster. He''l probably wake up from his nap under a tree, light up a cigarette, pull out his stinky ol' salami sandwich, burp and fart, and the buck will come along and pose for him. Probably even downwind too. He'll probably shoot from the hip and blow the thing flat. Then he'll spend the rest of the year asking what the big deal is about this hunting thing. In fact it may be his last year of hunting because he really doesn't see the challenge in it. Does this sound like someone I actually know? Yes, it is a true story, and it happened in a spot that I had spent all bow season hunting. Do not look for justice in the woods.........There is none!!! I missed the first buck w/ a bow ever... been hunting w/ a bow and have take 7 deer, one was a 120" buck... This year a massive 12 point walks under my stand... quarters away @ 22 yards, I lay an arrow at him... yup... clean miss, never felt so sick... good news is, far as I know, nobody got him.
