Guest Colorado Bob
I'm really thinking about a DIY---backpack hunt for caribou. Has anyone done it ? I think I want to do this one before I get to old & gray. CB
rifleman25
Re: AK---caribou hunt My dad has done a DIY hunt in Alaska thre times now. They hunt the Porcuine herd and the forty mile herd. Done well all three times. I'm thinking about taking the tri[p in the next few years. If you think you'd be up for it just let me know, maybe we could go together. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: AK---caribou hunt Sounds like it may work. I think we could get a couple more board members interested-----pretty sure IronBuck would go. I've got not idea on costs but I think $3500 would be a ball park number to budget. alaskaguide
Re: AK---caribou hunt You can do a caribou drop out of Kotzebue for around 2 grand. But then you have other expenses to think of, such as getting meat and antlers back to lower 48, flights to Anchorage then onto Kotzebue, lodging a night before going into the field and a night after getting out of the field. Also keep in mind the possibility of getting weathered in for days at a time and having to change flight plans. Lots of stuff to account for, but well worth an authentic Alaska hunt.
