slughunter
....would start to loose the excitement. I am talking about these hunters like michael waddel and bill jordan where they are always taking big bucks ( numerus ones each season) that are basicly handed to them by outfitters. dont you think that they would lose the buck fever and the joy of getting that big one that they have been hunting for all season. I wouldent want it to be like that. I shot my first buck in 2004 and was so thrilled. then I hunted hard the 2005 season and didnt get a buck and was a little disapointed. but this october when I was fortunate enought to take a 7 pointer I was so thrilled I couldent stop thinking about it and still am so pleased I got him. I just think that they have ruined the experience because they have done it all and know that it wont be long before they shoot another trophy. whats your opinion? -shane
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: dont you think they.... i don't think shooting a big buck every year would get old. BUT i am not gunna lie...their videos are getting kind of old. its the same thing every year...its ALL outfitters...and alot of times...someone shoots a deer out of a stand that either they or someone else shot one out of the year or two before. I am getting hooked on the Drury videos. they at least hunt on the land they own or lease..yeah there are a couple hunts on each that they pay for, but its mostly their own land, and they show them doing the work putting in food plots, they show pictures they get off of their game came, and alot of times shoot the deer and say "we have pictures of this guy at this age and at this age" and then actually show the pictures. i dunno, i just like the fact that they are putting in all the hard work instead of writing a check and sitting in a stand that someone else did all the work to get the deer. Will i quit buying the Realtree videos? HECK NO...but i am not as pumped when they come out as i was in the past
slughunter
Re: dont you think they.... your right, and the drury boys are the only guys that I pay much attention to because they do there own work and they do show results and prove that proper game managment does produce results. -shane
buckee
Re: dont you think they.... Heck, shooting smaller bucks every year doesn't get old for me, and I've been hunting for a very long time. I can't see how shooting monster bucks could get old for anyone in their right mind. Tominator
Re: dont you think they.... If I ever get bored of seeing a deer walk towards me, any deer, it's time for me to hang it up.
Jeramie
Re: dont you think they.... Actually I agree to a point. Shooting nice deer doesn't seem like it could possibly get old but I bet ti can. Relentless travel, schedules, and having to follow around outfitters on a regular basis. Im sure they still get thrilled when it comes to pulling the trigger on a 150 class dear but would that deer carry the same pride and appreciation when you've already killed several in the past few months? To me, when I put in a lot of time and then finally kill one, Im thrilled. That anticipation and hard work that sometimes may take up to a month makes it that much more special. Going out into the field on a regular basis knowing the guy leading you is about to plop you down on a large buck (a LOT of the time) doesn't carry quite the same thrill with me. Newarcher
Re: dont you think they.... Hey RT monitors.... This brings up a GREAT idea......how about a RT 'back to basics' DVD series where Michael, Bill, and David hunt real property like we do. No outfitters.....no dingers. I am talking about taking a piece of property and learning it, scouting it, improving it, finding deer and stand locations, and hunting it. Let's see what the boys can do when there isn't an outfitter telling them "that big 10 pointer will walk out in this opening about dark". Not saying there is anything wrong with that and there is a certain fun in seeing them nail big bucks. But I want to see how Michael Waddell could fare hunting with me and hunting like me. In fact, Michael Waddell hasn't seen fit to invite me hunting with him quite yet (I am sure it is a matter of time), I invite Michael to hunt with me. Seriously, I would like to see how they would fare on my land. New
preacherman
Re: dont you think they.... I think one of the only things that gets old to them.........is having to be away from their families to do this. Hunting is something that would never get old........being away from home several months out of the year; now, that would get old!
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: dont you think they.... I do agree going to an outfitter who will put you in an area that has big bucks is great to see in TV and to get video of but the typical hunter does not have that advantage due to the funds it takes. I am sure most outfitters waive the fee for the TV exposure but it would be great to see them scouting, putting in some food plots, and seeing what shows up. Not some guide telling them a 180" bruiser shows up every morning in a certain area, the outfitters do a great job of providing this information but the average hunter has to deal with what's on his land or on public. Like I said, makes for great footage but the average hunter is tickled pink if a 110" buck comes into range!! As for taking a big buck getting old, I agree with Chris, if you loose that feeling that deer give you its time to find another hobby!! wheelin99xj
Re: dont you think they.... I agree with the above. I know that these guys have to be seeing deer and shooting big ones to keep up with other hunting show but I would also appreciate seeing these guys go through the struggles, dissappointment, anticipation, and excitement of either hunting small pieces of land or even public land, that most of us hunt on. I'm not saying that everyone of their shows has to be this way but it would sure be something different. I think it would be a hit for Waddell to take a whole Road Trips season and hunt public land or private pieces of land that hunters from here hunt on, I don't think anyone on here would turn him down, mainly just no outfitters. I am pretty sure that will never happen and I understand why to a certain extent but I think the allmighty $$ is the biggest influence on the hunting industry, and that is kind of sad. Maybe I'm just jealous, which I am, but I appreciate the average Joe killing a nice 8 point that will score 90" and he is thrilled to death with it, more so than that 200" killed on such and such ranch with so and so. Still really enjoy the Realtree guys though, just wish the shows were a little more realistic.

wtnhunt
Re: dont you think they.... If it is truly what they love, which appears to be the case for many, I dont think they would ever lose the feeling. As for News idea, pretty sure I said years ago, it would be great for Michael to come and turkey hunt here since I have no luck with calling these birds. He is a great caller, these birds I can never call in, would like to see how he could do with them, of course he could give me any pointers on deer hunting this property too. slughunter
Re: dont you think they.... I am not saying that it would get so old you wouldent want to do it anymore, what im saying is that after a wile you might start to lose the thunder of hunting a little when you hunt the conditions like them -shane
IowaDeerHunter
Re: dont you think they.... First, I would not go as far as saying these bucks are all handed to them. Second I agree with you and others on how it gets boring and that is why I haven't bought the MB series for the past three four years, and I don't miss it. But I do get Roadtrips. And third, when you talk about the Drurys hunting their own land and doing all the scouting etc. DONT forget about the Kiskys and Lakosky's here in Iowa also! They do all the same! NEIOWAARCHER
Re: dont you think they.... I have always wondered the same thing. Doesn't the travel and the being put in the right spot all the time get old. And I think that I have every monster bucks movie ever made. Right back to the "Monster Bucks of North America." But if the RT team don't start doing some of the work themselves than I won't be getting to many more of them. No offense, just sick of the Monster Buck outfitter ads. stevebeilgard
Re: dont you think they.... let's face it. shooting a big buck never gets old. and, they have to shoot big bucks, or there is no show. how many of us want to watch a doe get shot, or a fork horn. or no kill at all. we watch the shows to see big bucks get killed. such is the life of those shows....
