I was in my stand this morning and the wind started from the North and 2 hrs later the clouds were comming from the North but there was a strong alternating breeze from both the south and west.???? how are you supposed to keep the deer from winding you when it comes from 3 directions.? can you use any of the doe pee's or attractants to cover your scent and how much will it actually help. I got down from my tree at 11 and decided to take a walk arounf the area with a drag cloth and hung some scent tabs with Golden Estrus figuring that may help, I sat there till dark and saw Nata! when you have wild winds is it pointless and thats when you just call it a day and hang out with the wife? Thanks

Re: Wind Question

I now have several stands tahat are in "swirl country"

The wind always swirls unless it's early morning or late evening.

I go as scent free as possible for me.

I was out this AM and saw nothing from a swirl stand site as well as a non-swirl site.

Sorry I can't help. All I can say is go asclean as possible in those areas.

Re: Wind Question

its always been said that you should pick one side or the other of a ridge and not hunt on top of it. Winds will almost always swirl so pick a side and hunt just down the ridge. wink.gif

Re: Wind Question

Why not hunt the Top?? verses teh bottom wher its going up down and all around verses the top wouldnt the wind carry at a higher elevation and blow ou verses down and be even less likely to smell you

i've always heard, and personally agree that the ridge top is the best place b/c it swirls less there. The sides of ridges and bottoms are where the swirling winds occur.
