Filled my muzzleloader tag.......with a bow!!!

I tried to get some pictures online, but I'm at my parents' house and they have dialup. I'm fed up with it.....so you'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

Anyway, don't have a long story, but here goes: Got in stand at 6:00am after making a mock scrape, grunted at legal shooting light (6:15) and heard footsteps a few minutes later, so I grabbed my bow from my EZ Hanger and stood up. Luck has it to be a nice buck. He looks right at me, I'm thinking I got screwed again, but he then goes on about his business. He stops with his vitals between two trees and I'm about to shoot and he starts to move, so I voice grunt, he looks my way, and I let my hungry Muzzy eat for the second time this year. He ran off, I'm going nuts in my treestand. I called my dad at 6:20 and he said he's on his way to help me find it. Once he got there, we followed the blood for a ways and then lost it. We started just doing a body search, since I knew the area and knew he wouldn't try going far. Ended up we walked within 10 feet of this deer and didn't see him!! It wasn't until I was backtracking for a 3rd or 4th time that I saw him!! shocked.gif

Shot him at 14 yards and he ran about 100 yards. Caught the top of the near-side lung and center-punched the opposite lung. Anyway, I'll not spoil the surprize, but I'll just tell you he's my personal best and he's caped out in the freezer right now. A heck of a nice Oklahoma Public Land bowkill. And I might add that I was hardcore enough to stick with the bow while 95% other hunters in OK are using the 'ol Firesticks. I'm pumped to say the least. Pics to come............ grin.gif

OK, here are the pics!

He's not quite as big as I thought, so I'm having second thoughts about having him mounted now. He's a dang nice Oklahoma public land buck, but not a monster. He's only a couple inches bigger than my last bow buck, but looks 20 inches bigger to me!! I've got him in the freezer and I'll think it over. I love the double throat patch though!!

It's hard for me to believe this guy only dressed out 106 lbs. I didn't trust the scales I weighed him on, so I double-checked at home....both say 106. Still a nice buck in my book. Being on public land adds that much more to him. cool.gif

Great buck Ryan! I'd go ahead and mount him if I were you, bud.

We've got a good acorn crop down here. The young buck I shot field dressed 110 and the doe was a hair over 90. We've already had a couple checked in that went over 170 field dressed.

don't be foolish, that big boy belongs on the wall, remember its your personal best and you'll regret it if you don't!! You can always tell your kids that it was your first buck, then show them the others!

Get it mounted, that is a great buck! Congratulations!!

now if we can only do something about your camo choice! grin.gif LOL!!
