Bulldawg (Let's get ER done guys and guys)

As many of you know, a long time member here Tom Repinski (AKA- Bulldawg), has had a terrible fall from his treestand while bow-hunting.

He is in pretty bad shape with several compound fractures to his back, a couple of bulging disks, and they had to plate and screw one of his knees back together.

He will be laid up for at least 10 weeks, then "several" months of rehab. No-one is ever the same after back injuries like this. Anyone who has had back injuries, knows all to well.

Tom was using a safety belt, but not for climbing. He hooks into it after he's up in his stand, but never made it that far.

The worst part of all of this, is that Tom doesn't have any accident insurance. His regular insurance may cover a very small part of the hospital stay (not sure yet) but the operations will be out of pocket. Tom's just a regular working stiff, like you and I and of course still has the regular monthly bills coming in to deal with.

He needs our help, in a big, big way, so please, reach deep in your pockets, and see what we can do.

It's been suggested (by Kyle AKA-the kat) that we forgo the gift exchange this year, in favour of a fund raiser for bulldog. I think it's a great idea, but many of you want both anyway, so we'll keep these two items separate.

If anyone who has signed up, wants to opt out of the gift exchange, in favour of sending some money for bulldawg instead, just let me or another lounge moderator know, and we'll take your name off of the exchange list.

There are two ways we can do this, and both will work well.

We will raise as much as we can by December 1st, at which time we will reassess Tom's needs compared to what we have raised so far, or end the fund raiser.

If you are giving Via Jordan Outdoor Enterprises, Ltd., please say so, so we can keep track of how much is expected to come in.

Thank you guy and gals...LETS GET THIS DONE, for our fellow hunter and friend.

Hello folks.

I finally talked the wife into my computer up here, so I can stay in touch with the world around me. I'll try to bring you in tune with what happened.

It was a great day for hunting Friday, and I was taking my time climbing the sticks up to my stand. Harness could only be strapped after climbing, as the tree was huge at it's base. If I had it hooked, chances are that the branch that broke off would have been the one I would have been strapped to anyways.

I was about 3 feet below my stand, and my shoulder was slightly leaning on a big branch. As I shrugged to squirm past it, there was no problem yet. Then I got to where I had my hand on the stick, but was leaning a little harder on this branch, and I heard the branch crack, and it let loose. Still hanging on good, but my hands were down too far on the stick. As I worked them up farther, I got slightly off balance, and lost the grip on my right hand. Then I managed to re-grip, and just totally ended up losing my grip and balance. Luckily, I managed to land somewhat on my left foot, but the knee cap got ground heavily into the dirt, and my lower back took the brunt of the jolt. I never lost consciousness, and after assessing the situation, I started yelling for my son. He came over in what seemed to be just seconds, and headed for the house to call 911. My cousins son is an EMT, and he was first on the scene.

They ended up carting me out with an Argo 6 wheeler, and he drove me to Shawano hospital by ambulance. After a few agonizing hours of test after test they came to an assessment of surgery for my knee, and my back now has an extra bulging disk , with multiple stress fractures. They put me in a huge cast, and sent me to my cousins house.

I admitted in to St Vincents in Green Bay Saturday evening, after the left foot swelled heavily, and became cold. I had surgery on my left knee on Tuesday morning, where they put in a metal plate in by the Tibia?, and put in 5 screws, and some staples where they cut me open. They cut the huge cast off, and I'm in a huge hinged brace now. I will not be able to put any pressure on the left leg for at least 3 1/2 months, and will be off work possibly a few more months, with rehab. I will be in the hospital for at least another week; maybe more.

I have no income coming in after I use up my vacation time, as I have no short or long term disability. I have a week of vacation left, and than I will have to pay for my insurance to keep it active while off work. My wife only takes home 330 a week which will pay our mortgage, and her vehicle payment. I will end up letting my vehicle go, as I won't be driving anymore for awhile.

Any ways, I am alive, and will be hurting for some time now. Take care, and I'll try to get in here every now and then give an update on my condition. Thank you to all of my friends in here, I appreciate the caring thoughts. I'm in room 212 now. The phone number is 920-433-8861. Will read in here for a bit, and then rest up for therapy in the morning.

The folks in here are second to none. This post and the other one, has brought tears to this old dawg's eyes. As hard as it is now, I will graciously accept anything that can go towards helping my wife and kids stay warm and safe this winter. They are first on my mind, and it's going to be a long hard winter for us. The KAT...Thank you, and the rest of the great folks in here....from the bottom of my heart.

There are a few auctions for the benefit of Bulldawg in the Classifeds. Might be a great way to get something you need and help out a friend.

Just got back from sending some cash out to the Family. I know its hard for all of us this time of year to dig in our pockets. Felt sick this morning and even on the drive into down i was,nt feeling that good but when the money is sent out it makes you feel better fast. Its a way quicker then a visit to the doctors. Prayers also sent out for Tom and his family.

Re: Bulldawg FUND RAISER (Let\'s get ER done guys and g

Hey there,

New to the forum and this is my first post which I think is a very important thread. I had an idea for the mods or admins of the site and this is just a thought i had I am not telling you how to run the forums in any way at all or imposing opions but you may what to possibly think of linking in a pay pal button to the thread in some way. I say this because it would much more convienent for many people (Possibly) and have it set so all the donations made go directly to 1 certain person who can then take all the money out at any one time when the time it is needed arises. Again just a thought to ponder IMO.I have seen it done on many other forums and it seems to work very well and get much response. My father had taken a fall like this (Not quite to this extent but it sure dented our hunting and there were a couple broken bones in the leg) and I was with him at the time and I know it is NOT a good feeling. Let alone the feeling for the person who suffers the injuries. My cell wouldnt work at the time and we were a little ways back so I had to leave him and actually ran for help after checking him over quickly to make sure he was ok to be alone there for a bit leaving him in the woods to await my return ( Again not a good feeling) and an argo was also involved in his incident. So in a small sense i really understand the situation just not quite to the sevarity of Bulldawgs. Myself I will be heading into town within the next day or two and sending what I can off for the family. Take care, rest well and may god be with you and your family through it all.

Welcome to the forums Rottweiler.

Paypal may be a bit more convenient for those who have an account there, but not for those who don't. Everyone has a couple of bucks or more they can spare, but not everyone has a Paypal account. wink.gif

Good thought though.

Having been on the receiving end of a RT forum fundraiser for Dakota and our family this past spring (for Dakota's open heart surgery), I know that Bulldawg and his family will be very grateful! The people on this forum are the best!! Our check will go out in tomorrow's mail. You and your family are in our prayers Bulldawg!
