too_pointer
Hello. Somebody in here had bought one for their Encore, I think they even had a pic posted of it. I just don't remember who it was I think it was the Nutmeg Laminate. If you read this would you mind giving me your thoughts on it, part # if possible and price ? I would like to see the pic again if you still have it. I have looked at some on Boyds site, but was alittle confused on the part #'s. I e-mailed them with a few questions, but they haven't got back to me. I would like opinions from someone who has bought one. I have TC's synthetic right now in 50. cal. Here is my e-addy if you would like to send it there: [email protected] Thanks too_pointer
timberghost
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore Hey Too Pointer, I've got the Boyd's laminate stock on my Encore. I bought the Pepper laminate two seasons ago and I am very happy with it. I'll try to post a pic for you. Also I think that I have my boxes so if you want the part #'s for the pepper laminate stock let me know. Here is the pic
too_pointer
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore Thanks timber I might have had the color wrong, I thought it was the Nutmeg.Anyhoo, I really love how that looks Yes, please e-mail me the parts # if you don't mind. Did your stock have a good fit, or did you have to do some work on it first? Also, did it come with a recoil pad? Is there anything you don't like about it , and was it easy to install? Thanks alot for your help, I really appreciate it too_pointer [email protected]
timberghost
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore too_pointer, The part numbers on my boxes were as follows... Forend = 404-707 Price was 26.99 Stock = 403-202 Price was 52.49 I double checked Boyd's website and there does seem to be a difference. These are now listed as VIP (virtual inlet parts) which are not finished and you may need to clean up a minor amount of wood to get the proper fit (I actually like this but the wood is not finished). Mine came complete with a satin finish, pistol grip cap and a (very thin) recoil pad. The fit and function is awesome. I would call them and ask them to verify that they no longer carry fully finished pieces. If you need anything else let me know!

timberghost
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore too_pointer, I am really sorry but I screwed up the part numbers - The numbers on my order were 400-202 for the Stock and 401-707 for the forend. That's what I get for being in a hurry I guess! Sorry.
str8shooter48
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore I bought a set of pepper laminated from E. A. Brown Co. last year. They were totally finished and the fit was excellent. Be sure to save the metal tab and screw that holds the ramrod tight from you old forend, it must be used in the laminated forend. Buttstock $79 Forend $39 http://www.eabco.com/tclam.html
str8shooter48
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore Too Pointer. I went into the website again and found they are selling the set buttstock and forend for $99. The laminated set adds a little weight to the gun but at the same time the gun seems to be better balanced and recoil seems to be reduced a little. I also like the larger pistol grip on the Boyd stock http://www.eabco.com/encorestocks.html
too_pointer
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore Thanks for all the info and taking time to help me out I will be checking out those web sites today. too_pointer
DannoBoone1
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore I got the lighter colored laminated butt stock from Boyds. The area in the pistol grip of the factory walnut stock had split just two weeks prior to ML season and T/C said it would take 6 weeks turnaround to replace the old stock, even though I had explained the delimna. Was tickled pink when the Boyd stock came in THREE DAYS!!! It did loosen after a couple of shots, but then when tightened, stayed tight. tped
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore Just bought the nutmeg laminated with 2 forends from Boyds. They are unfinished but will be superb after I complete with a hand-rubbed oil satin finish. They are really nice and at $130 for the complete set, pretty tough to beat. too_pointer
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore tped, you say they are unfinished ? I understood they were ready to install from Boyd's. I believe I am going with the nutmeg also, although the pepper is pretty nice too ! I know for sure I'm going to get one. What did you have to do to yours before installing, just the satin finish, and they don't come ready to go ?? Thanks for answering my questions. too_pointer
tped
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore too pointer-- mine came fitted but not finished. I will have to put a satin or oil finish on it to protect the wood. Many of their stocks from what I have seen may need minor fitting and then finishing with an oil or some other protective coating. I am going to use birchwood casey tru oil hand rubbed in and then sealed with their wax. Hopefully I will get a nice satin finish. I am not a fan of high gloss so I will not put a clear laquer on the final coat.
str8shooter48
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore too pionter The stocks bought directly from Boyd are unfinished. The stocksets from E.A Brown are fully fitted and finished for $

AJ
Re: Boyd stock for the Encore Another option is a set from E. Arthur Brown Co. They are offering Walnut buttstock and forend set or laminated set in standard or heavy for $99. The cool offer they have right now is hand checkering is only $25 if ordered with a stock set for a 2 panel checkering job.
