WaCoyote
I am thinking about a trip to Montana or Wyoming next year for an Antelope / Muley hunt. While an outfitter is not totally out of the question I'd rather do it myself. Is there much public land in antelope country? How many other hunters can I expect to run into? Any body use a guide that they would recommend? Any other pointers for me?
rifleman25
Re: Antelope advise needed I would be willing to point you in the right direction. General region W deer is almost a sure thing to draw and I can't remember the antelope unit number but it's easy too. You would be hunting a short distance from Rock Springs Wyoming. PM me with any questions and I'll try to help you out. I might even be able to help you out on the hunt since I'm usually out there at that time deer hunting anyway. WaCoyote
Re: Antelope advise needed I appreciate it. I've been thinking about it for a while and I think I'm going to finally take the plunge. I really want an antelope on the wall. Is there a decent Muley population in the same area? Would kind of like to do a combo hunt if poss.
Guest Colorado_Sportsman
Re: Antelope advise needed Gillette, WY might just be the Antelope capital. After traveling all over the West I would say Wyoming is the best place to hunt Antelope. If you go, make it a combo hunting/fishing trip. One of the best trout rivers in N. America is the North Platte. Top fishing spots, The Miracle Mile and Grey Reef but anywhere between Seminoe Reservoir and Casper is excellent. WaCoyote
Re: Antelope advise needed Nice!!! Thanks so much. It's one thing to say your going to do it but it gets pretty confusing when your not too familiiar with the state and you have to figure out which zones to apply for. The area Near Rock Springs is all BLM and National Grassland. Anyone can hunt that. Both applications are due in March usually.

[/ QUOTE ] Whats the hunting pressure like? Is there a tons of people running around or does the draw system keep them thinned out? Thanks for all your help guys. If I can ever repay let me know. I really mean it too, at least this gives me a starting point. I think I'll go get some maps today and start looking them over.
jbeck
Re: Antelope advise needed There is a block management area up above Ismay Montana that I just hunted for sharp tail grouse. Mom took a good antelope buck there the other week. we saw a good number of lopes also. Good luck

[/ QUOTE ] I hunt from the back side and usually don't see many people. I saw 3 other hunters in the week I hunted it this year. Draw keeps it pretty quiet in there. I like it though because you can draw both tags deer and stinkey speed goat and hunt the same week.
