My droptine story

I love the 6,7 of November for the rut activity and try to spend at least one whole day in the timber looking for Mr. big. Well yesterday was it,and I spent the morning hour in 2 different stands with only does to account for. After a quick granola bar lunch I headed into the heavy timber near the spoil banks to set a new stand location.

I got it set and cleared a few shooting lanes and settled in for the afternoon. About 1:00 I saw a small 6 point cruise down below me and grunted at him. He came up to investigate and continued to the other side of the point I was on top of. About 1 hr later I heard a grunt out in front of me and it was him again pushing a doe.

About 1/2 hr later he cruised up by me again but without the doe, heres where it got interesting. About 1 minute later on the other side of the ridge I hear antlers tickle. Then all heQQ breaks loose 80 - 100 yards away. Leaves rustling like the ground is getting moved by a bulldozer, heavy deer grunting and massive sounding horns cracking together and grinding, It went on for 1-2 minutes and stopped. I tried to grunt and growl one closer but I think the winner went with the doe and the looser wanted nothing to do with me LOL.

1/2 hr later from behind me I spot movement as I scanned the brush and this buck came up the ridge but turned and headed into the spoil piles. I grunted to turn him but to no avail. When he was almost out of sight behind the spoil pile I turned the GROWL call loose on him. He was already behind the pile but about 5 seconds later he came over the top to investigate the Growl. One more soft grunt and he slid down to me like he was on a string.

At 25 yards I turned the Mathews Muzzy combo loose and it ate him up! He trotted 15 yards and stopped. Just as I reached for another arrow he fell over right in front of me!!!! And here he is.
