Shaun_300
Re: NOOOOOOOOOO! That's not good! We get a Detroit's "Local 4" channel up here, I saw a commercial saying "Vote against dove hunting in Michigan, there's no point to it, it's just killing innocent animals... blah blah blah." [/ QUOTE ] If you hate our state Nick, just move, then you can gripe about another state. Were you going to go out to shoot morning doves? Are you a guy that is out just to shoot anything that moves? I doubt it but do we need any more people in the woods that just want to shoot things up? You want to shoot, then get a clay thrower and have fun. What gets me is the people saying that voting NO would ban all hunting in Michigan? That would be suicide for our state, it would never happen. Michigan makes way too much money to ban all hunting. So don't worry about that happening. Were we going to lose tons of money because morning dove hunters from other states can't come here now to hunt them? Doubt it. As hunters do we need seasons on all types of game? Were people going to eat the doves? Probably not, it all goes back to my theory is just guys and gals just like to shoot to shoot. I for one like seeing other wildlife while on stand, I am not shooting for the sake of shooting! So in closing, our citizens are not idiots, our country is not falling apart, its about saving our resources and enjoying nature instead of shooting them all into extinct status!!! Whats on next years ballot, chickadee hunting? Somewhere we must draw the line before its too late.

I see where your coming from Lou,but on the other hand if they can get dove hunting banned, what will they try and ban on next years ballot?I'm sure they're goal is not just to stop at dove hunting. 3whunt
Re: NOOOOOOOOOO! That stinks for sure... Dove season down here is pretty much the first hunt of the fall. It is a great way to spend time with family and friends without remaining silent and still. I don't know about michigan hunters not eating doves.... if you, you are missing some great eats... and I really don't beleive dove hunters are just out there shooting "everything" advantagetimberlou. If you don't like my comments, I really don't care anymore, please explain to me though why you thought it was intellectually bankrupt!! If you really want to complain, complain that Granholm is in charge for another 4 years, yell at your family and friends that did not vote!! Her in charge is a bigger issue that us shooting doves in a dove season. She is ruining the state! If you have no job then hunting won't be an issue as you won't be able to afford to. Her winning was a major blow for our state, not proposal 3 on doves! The only way we are going to preserve nature is for us hunters doing it, sometimes we must draw the line on what we have seasons for and what would be an animal to hunt. I don't want a day where my daughters will not see a morning dove in our yard, I am sure most of you would not too!!

[/ QUOTE ] The elimination of waterfowl and deer hunting in Michigan will not happen, that is what gets me is the people believe that once one species gets a "no" vote then others will follow. Not true, for pete's sake, shooting doves the first step to all hunting being banned? I love to hunt but I have yet to see the harm in these birds, they do not cause car accidents, they do not do serious damage to crops, they do not cause nusisances in neighborhoods, I personally don't see a reason to open a season for them and others seen it the same way. They are not a nuisance animal. Maybe its because I don't bird hunt, if I want to shoot I grab a box of clays and go out and shoot. It's not all the anti's voting the dove bill down, lots of hunters I know voted no on it and they are far from an anti!!!
Orion_70
Re: NOOOOOOOOOO! Doves are the most popular Game Bird in America. It's a huge tradition for the sesson opener of dove season. Lots of youth start out hunting doves as their first game species. Doves taste great stuffed in a jalapeno and wrapped with bacon. I know many people that only bird hunt and doves are their primary birds. What gets me is people can't wrap their heads around this. Waterfowl aren't causing car wrecks or nuisance animals either. What's the reason to hunt them..Let's ban waterfowl season too. Just because you don't bird hunt is not a reason to vote to eliminate someone else's hunting. There's a lot of waterfowler's I know that don't deer hunt and see no reason to, they don't enjoy it. If we start dividing ourselves and voting to eliminate each other's sport we'll all lose. That goes for trapping also, even though I don't trap any longer, I would never vote to eliminate that season. I don't want to see any hunting season eliminated and don't think they should as long as we are responsible and employ sound game management so future generations can enjoy all hunting sports. Because that doesnt sound like something a hunter would say. This is a hunting forum and I took your comments personal and as a low blow, as should all the other hunters on this site.Congratulations Michigan, you just passed a bill supported by the Humane society, one of the nations largets animal right activists. Look out your window Lou, theres an abundance of these birds!! And they happen to get shot by the millions in 41 other states!!! Why don't I move? My family lives here in Michigan. Was I going to go shoot mourning doves? Nope!! But 41 other states can, and if hunters in Michigan want to, they should be able to too. Do I shoot everything that moves? What do my statements have to do with my hunting ethics and what I shoot? If its legal, don't worry about what I shoot!!! Whats on next years ballot, chickadee hunting? I doubt it, but there might be one to ban deer hunting, turkey hunting, bear hunting, phesant hunting, squirrel hunting, rabbit hunting. You voted dove hunting out, now they got the ball rolling their direction and will try to take away another one of your hunting rights.
