GWSmith
Re: How many rounds do you take? 10... 4 in the magazine of my Remington 7400 and 1 extra for the chamber with 5 backup rounds. During one day the most I've ever used was 4. After thinking about the extra and "Why" they go along for the ride...I geuss the extra rounds are there simply because I never want to be "where I need them and not have them". It's kind of like taking extra clothes just incase you need them...with Bullets..You cant shoot what you dont have with you.
rifleman25
Re: How many rounds do you take? I have a holder on my stock that holds nine. I fill it up and then load my rifle out of it with 4 when I get to the woods. That usually fills my 3 SD rifle tags and my 2 Nebraska tags. Tom2008
Re: How many rounds do you take? I only take 5 with me. I always only take 1 shot and if I need more I have 4 more to make up for that one.
Doc
Re: How many rounds do you take? One would think that you only need one bullet for each deer that you have a license or permit for. Well...stuff happens you know. They don't really weigh a whole lot so why not take along plenty. You never know exactly what might happen. I generally take along 10 counting what is in the gun. I have been known to lose a couple....lol. I know I will never shoot all 10 in one hunt (I would hope not anyway), but it is more like a security blanket. It just makes me feel better to know that there is no way that I will ever run out, for whatever reason or problem that may occur. billygoat
Re: How many rounds do you take? Let's see... Iowa Shotgun: 5 in the gun and an extra box (10) Wisconsin Rifle: 5 in the Chamber, a box in the truck! Wisconsin Bow... 3 in the quiver (why not just bring 1?) In the last 5 years, the most times I have shot at any one deer was 3 (and I hit him in the boiler all 3 times... he just wouldn't go down). WestKyTeacher
Re: How many rounds do you take? My gun holds 5 so I fill it full. I usually take a few more. Never know if yote or two might or bobcat might show up.

VTbowman
Re: How many rounds do you take? I always kept the rifle stock elastic thingy full (6) and just loaded from there. I had a Remington BDL 300 Ultra Mag. This year I am using an Encore 300 Win Mag handgun so 1 in and mostly like 4 or 5 in my pocket kept together with a rubber band. Guest Xen
Re: How many rounds do you take? i have 3 in the mag, i take an extra mag just incase something happens - i had a mag once that wouldn't feed a shell for some reason, so now i always take a back-up. i also always take a box of shells with me, and something to clean the gun with. if i fell or the gun got wet, i'd want fresh, clean, dry ammo to refil the mags with. i've never used more than 2 bullets on a deer, which is why i'll always take the extra box of ammo - i know it's excessive, but the time i don't take them will be the time i need them
Rhino
Re: How many rounds do you take? 4 in the mag and one in my pocket. Save the one in my pocket for myself if I miss with the other 4. JK There have been times when I've staked up some hogs emptying the mag. That's why the last one is in my pocket.

WaCoyote
Re: How many rounds do you take? Depends on the rifle and what I'm hunting but for deer I fill the mag, put one in the chamber and put a full reload in my pocket. I bring 20 when coyote hunting and 25 when bird hunting. Never have needed that many but thats what I do and I'm too old to change now.
Dogg6
Re: How many rounds do you take? My 30-06 holds 1 in the chamber and 4 in the clip. Usually carry 2 extra clips on me. I have had clip issues in the past and just like to be ready. Besides I have at least 6 tags to fill yet.
Huntin4ever
Re: How many rounds do you take? wtnhunt
Re: How many rounds do you take? Guess I could have elaborated. I have emptied my rifle(3 rds) on running coyotes coming though before in the past, and later on in the same hunt shot a deer. I do like to carry a partial box just in case, but if I remember right with the excpetion of one time, have only ever needed one round for deer.
