Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
What kind of flashlight do you use? i have a headlamp that i use to get to and from my stand...but for tracking i would like a nice bright flashlight...i have a minimag, and i was helping my cousin look for his arrow that he shot at a deer...and the minimag was very weak...brand new batteries, hardly ever used....he was using a surefire 6p and man that thing was bright....but i have heard the batteries on it don't last to long...any recommendations on a nice bright flashlight? nothing that will break the bank either...around $60-70 or less
hunterfisherman
Re: Flashlight? I have two Winchester Black Ice flashlights and they have been the best flashlights I've ever owned. I've dropped them so many times and a couple from a tree stand and they still work great. They have LED lighting and regular lighting in the same flashlight. I think they are as nice as a surefire and a lot less expensive
wtnhunt
Re: Flashlight? Carry a mini mag light in my pocket usually. For tracking I use a combination of 3 D cell mag lights, a rechargeable craftsman 19.2 volt light and a rechargeable spotlight. I really like the craftsman rechargeable for tracking, so long as the batteries last long enough. It has a nice wide beam and great bright light. terry264
Re: Flashlight? Hi SQ2: Hey, check the bulb on that mini-mag. They tend to burn black after a while and new batt's. won't make any difference. Bulbs are only about a $1.50, don't touch them with your fingers when handling the new bulb to push in place. Hard to beat a mini-mag.

AJ
Re: Flashlight? I carry a Surefire Z2 and I have the pop up red lens for it. It is great for long range viewing and is not much bigger than a mini maglite. The only drawback is the batterys are expensive and only last about 20 minutes with the 120 lumen bulb. But WOW what a bright 20 minutes that is. I also carry an Energizer trailfinder LED flashlight that is not extremely bright but it has a flourescent bulb on the side that works well for blood trailing. GWSmith
Re: Flashlight? Thats the one I use as well...it's Ultra Lite and you dont notice it's there. I like turning the switch the other direction and using the Red LED instead of the white while walking, white for climbing into and out of the stand! AaronS
Re: Flashlight? I use the Energizer LED headlamp pictured above for going to/coming from the stand. I love it. For tracking, I have a cordless/rechargeable 1 million candlepower spotlight that I carry in the truck during deer season.
Airman312
Re: Flashlight? I just bought a new toy from cabela's called the carnivore. It has multiple red and blue led's that are supposed to make the blood appear to "jump" off the leaves. It can also be switched to a flashlight with the push of a button. I'm looking forward to trying it. Made by Gerber.
mike
Re: Flashlight? i don't use a light for getting to and from my stand but as far as tracking i use a rechargable 2 million candle power flood light. it runs far about 45 mins to an hour max and recharges in the truck. dlriggins
Re: Flashlight? I agree that leds are the way to go but often dont give you a lot of light down the trail but I recently purchased one from the auto parts store where I work (because they gave us a coupon) it is as bright as the mini mag i still keep for a backup ( Luxion 99999 hour flashlight)
Leo
Re: Flashlight? Hope you learn from my experience. Extra batteries are a no-brainer. I always did that, no problem right? Wrong! You can change batteries in the dark but NOT bulbs! Flashlight bulbs DO fail and when they do, all the extra batteries in the world can't help. Buddy let me tell ya, I was in the middle of unfamiliar woods in the dark when it happened to me. NOT FUN! A radio and staying put saved my butt. Carry TWO lights with you. One might be just one of those disposable jobs but it's better than nothing. IMHO, the absolute best flashlight value period is Surefire's G2 Nitrolon. Extremely bright and powerful. Just make sure to unscrew the cap until the button won't work anymore, when you store it and the batteries last alot longer. The batteries are spendy but worth it for the brightest flashlight for under $40 you can get your hands on

FSU_Seminole
Re: Flashlight? For blood tracking I use a Garrity high beam flash light with a blue cap. That thing looks like a blue lightsaber from Star Wars when its on in the pitch black. I use a stream light lens pen when leaving from my stand & I use a green light. bowhtr1
Re: Flashlight? I use the streamlight clipmate. This clips to my hat and has 3 LED green lights that dont spook deer. This is the best I have found. Blood shines with this also as long as it is still wet. You also keep your night vision when using this light. I think I own all of the different types of lights talked about above. I have a thing for flashlights and knives.

Widowmaker
Re: Flashlight? I have a browning black ice and it is great. It has two red, two blue, two white, and one led light in the center. Very nice and compact. Red is great for getting to your stand, blue is great for tracking blood, and the led lights up the woods.
