Very very interesting evening it was on monday. I got in the stand a little late since my mother made me go get her cigarettes. Anyways, i spooked 3 does underneath my stand, so i thought everything was done for that night. but i was bored, and had nothing else to do, vand thought maybe they'd come back. So i get in my tree around 3:30pm. After sitting there thinking to myself "how bad would it be to lower your bow outta the stand, and then have a nice buck walk up on you and you cant do a thing". I was thinking how bad that would suck, and how you should wait for the bow to be the last thing (i get bored in the tree so i think alot smile.gif). So after thinking all of this, it was now about 5:10pm and was getting quite dark. I gathered all my gear, and made shure i had everything to go except my bow (which i was putting down last.) i looked around and made shure there wasnt anything around before hooking my bow to the gear rope and slowly lowering it down to the ground. As so as my bow hit the ground, guess what happened? yea thats right, this big ol 4 point walked from behind me, directly up to my North Country Scent. I let one fly and it hit him in the spine. He fell, and i thought he was dead, but he was just paralyzed. I had never had this happen before so i called up my buddy and explained i had a deer on the ground but it wasnt dead, he said hed be on his way. When he arrived (by this time it was dark), we walked over to where the deer was thrashing about and i let another fly in his boiler room, which took care of him quickly. weighed 163 on teh scales dressed. sorry, my stupid college doesnt have cd drives in the library so ill have to upload pics when i get home. Let me tell you, i was excited !!!

ps forgot to mention, lifting my bow outta the tree while this guy was walking to me was quite a struggle. i hurried it up, and in doing so, my quiver hit a tree step and made a loud "THUD". he looked up and then just kept comming. finally got the bow up and then the magic happened.

Sounds like an exciting last few minutes. Usually after a spine hit, if the deer can't move much, I just get my foot on 1 or both of its front legs, grab and ear and cut the throat. It's quick and then you don't waste a second arrow. I hit one earlier this year like that.

Yeah, that sounds really exciting. At least now you know what to do next time you spine one..eh. You gotta get that second arrow in there, to finish the job, so he doesn't suffer needlessly. wink.gif
