whats the matter with Indiana

Re: whats the matter with Indiana

I can probably give you a few reasons that TV Hunting don't want to go to Indiana.

There are no Outfitters listed in the outfitters guide for whitetail or bear hunting in IN.

You don't really think that these guys and gals on TV want to hunt public land do you?

If there are no Outfitters listed in Indiana, how in the world would these great hunters find any deer?

Without an Outfitter they would have to fund their own hunt instead of trading for the advertising.

That probably is not in their multi-million dollar budgets.

Many of the TV hunters have never hunted outside of a high fence, and it would be too difficult for them to get any kind of a hunt on film.

Are there any manufacturers in Indiana of 4-wheelers, hunting gear, firearms, archery equipment, or anything that would sponsor a trip for the TV hunters, in exchange for advertising on their show?

And last, but not least; everyone knows there are no huge deer in Indiana,( grin.gif) and you can't expect TV personalties to hunt an average deer.

I almost forgot to add that if you do have any turkey, you will need to send in video and give the exact GPS coordinates, as well as the exact time of day the turkey appear.

Welcome DL. Actually, I think Popgun is wrong on all counts other than there being no outfitters listed on Realtree. Realtree is hunting here this year, with an outfitter. I may do a late season hunt with another outfitter here as well. I know of a scent company, decoy company, NAP is just outside Indiana near Chicago. Those are off the top of my head. I don't mind Indiana being a sleeper state one bit. As far as most TV hunters hunting behind high fences, I won't even justify that with a response.

Popgun makes a lot of good points, but I'll add a few comments. I think the lack of outfitters and lack of leased land is the biggest reason we don't see more shows filmed in Indiana. Not because the hunters want to hunt pen raised deer, but because they have a busy filming schedule and don't have the time to do all their scouting and other leg work themself.

With that said, I have seen at least one show that turkey hunted in Harrison County (can't remember the name of the show). I've seen an episode of John Brunson Outdoors where he bowhunted for deer in west central Indiana and took a nice buck. And who can forget the most famous Indiana deer hunt of all time, our old buddy Jimmy Houston. wink.gif

Well I stumbled upon this thread but now that I’m here I have to ask, why on god’s green earth would you want Indiana featured on any hunting shows? I have a friend that lives near Marion Ky and during the deer season the hotels fill up with people from FL, NC, AK and the like coming in to hunt the land they’ve leased up, is that what you want here? confused.gif

I agree with popgun, the hunting here sucks, no big bucks and full of jakes. wink.gif

Oh, INBowhunter, you're missed over at the LCTRs. grin.gif

Well I thought I might dig this post up, it would appear that dlriggins is going to get his wish. It appears that TC Arms has bought up 25,000 acres of mine land known around here as the Tecumseh area. Since they also have the “Game Trails” show, I believe it is, I’m sure you’ll be seeing trophy deer being harvested on the TV from right here in good ol’ southern IN.

On the other hand there’s a big chunk of prime hunting and fishing land gone, unless of course you pull out the check book and start writing. Not to mention the people who will see what kind of hunting we have here and start looking to lease land. Instead of the store in Lynnville being full of trucks with Evansville plates it’ll be NC, AK, FL, ect. mad.gif

BTW - AK is the abbreviation for Alaska. Doubt if you'll have too many folks driving in from there. grin.gif

Seriously though, you may indeed see an increase in private property that gets leased for hunting. That has some drawbacks but also some benefits. It may become more difficult to find free places to hunt, but the quality of the hunting generally improves and the additional revenue is always welcomed by the landowners.
