true talker?

All you guys using the true talker, I have a question, or maybe a couple.

Did you adjust the o ring to change the tone? I am having troubles with this call, it sounds ok, but not great. I opened it up and adjusted the o ring and it sounds a bit better than it did out of the package, but still not quite as good as one of my other calls.

Another thing, how did you get rid of the rubber odor. I have had this thing for 3 weeks or more now and I have tried spraying the call with scent away, tried washing it with baking soda on the exterior part of the call, and it still stinks. I know hte deer can smell it, I got winded by a doe just last night with no wind when she got about 15 yards out. She did not run off hard, but she had to have smelled the call just before she trotted down the hill and eventually walked on off.

Re: true talker?

I don't even mess with the O-rings. Really, the only thing you need to know is how much pressure to put on the call with your fingers to get the tone you want. Like I said, I've been using this call for 2 or 3 years and never even messed with the o-rings. Works fine for me.

As for the rubber smell, not sure on that one. I can't remember ever really noticing an odor from that call since I bought it. confused.gif

Re: true talker?

Maybe I just got a defective call. With the o ring where it was at out of the package and the little rubber band deal, I could push towards the end of the call closer to your mouth for higher pitched tones(fawn calls) and you could not hardly blow through the call, and the sound you got did not sound like any deer at all. Actually the call sounded its best without applying any pressure to the reed at all.

That's how I use mine.I've never messed with the o-rings or the bands,I just use it to make grunts.

Your right about the smell, this thing smells like a bucket full of burning pencil erasers.I've been doing the same....spraying it with carbon spray, washing it,and leaving it out to disipate the odar. It's gotten better, but still smells.I keep it tucked inside my scentblocker jacket unless I'm blowing in it.I love the grunts this thing makes, just wish it didn't stink so bad.

Re: true talker?

I never changed the position of the O-Ring in mine so I cant help you there.

With the "Rubber Bands" I use them as a refference point so I can hit a Doe bleat or Fawn bleat without looking at it.

I did cut off a couple inches of the Tube to make it sound less like a bigger buck...had a few smaller bucks bolt after calling to them using the call without any finger pressure on the reed.

My call is a few years old now but has never smelled bad even when it was new...no idea why yours does confused.gif

Ditto with John, although mine has that rubber smell to it. Tastes real good though! crazy.giftongue.gifgrin.gif

I've made some interesting sounds on that thing so far, as I am still learning it. Ohiobucks got one for me for my birfffffday.
