fisherguy
I am again buying a new rifle...seems to be addicting. I am looking for something for moose, deer on occacion when i an hunting both at the same time, and for some trips i am budgeting for in the next few years such as africa for plains game up to eland. I was thinking .300 WSM but am wondering waht the recoil is like. The last rifle I bought is a Sako 75, 7mm rem mag, and i shoot 175 grain bullets. If i got the same gun in a .300 wsm what sort of recoil difference can i expect. I am a big guy, but big recoil makes me flinch, so i don't want much more than the 7mm gives me. Thanks for the info. AJ
Re: Recoil difference question When you step to higher weight bullets than what you shoot in your 7mm Rem Mag, you will go up slightly in recoil. The 300 WSM with 180's will be similar to the 7mm Rem Mag.
Guest shotist
Re: Recoil difference question How about a Vais or Holland brake on a 30cal magnum? Felt recoil with either is on par with a 243. The Vais is pretty easy on the old ears compared to just about any others. Recoil sucks and I use the Vais
Shaun_300
Re: Recoil difference question .300 WSM would be a good caliber, I own one in a Browning BLR as you know, and the recoil isn't too bad at all. My Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag has a lot more punch than my BLR. I'd say the 7mm Mag would have a bit more recoil than the .300 WSM in the same gun. If you ever get up here ice fishing this winter we can go out and you can shoot mine, I think you'll love it.
hunterDWL
Re: Recoil difference question i just purchased a 300wsm in a tikka t3 i love it the best gun ive ever owned and i was a sako man to and i must say my sako wont be comming out for a long time i also have a 7mm in an encore i dont see a lot a diffrence really the 300wsm is a little lighter but i use a lead sled and belive me if you shoot a lot of magnums you should invest in one you wont belive the diffrence if you like sako take a look at the tikka t3 mines in staliness and a laminated stock
