Guest TNFarmBoy
I know that very few people use this round for deer. But, is there anybody on here that does? What brand/grain round do you use? If you load your own, please share your recipe. Thanks, DD
Guest ronin
Re: .25-06 I think there are actually quite a few people here that use it. I was just looking at the 25 recently and am leaning towards the Weatherby 257. Same bullets but a little faster. Try doing a general search for the 25-06 in this section and you might be surprised by how much you find. AJ also has a good right up on it if I remember correctly. G-Daddy
Re: .25-06 I have been loading the 110 gr Nosler Accubond over 53 gr IMR 4831. The load chronographed at 3105 fps in a Remington model 700 that I bought new in 1972. Sighted in at 1-1/2" high at 100 yards, the load is right on at 200 and about 3-1/2" low at 300. Last fall I shot a Montana mule deer buck, antelope buck and antelope doe. I also shot a PA buck with it.
johnf
Re: .25-06 I shoot 25-06. The recoil is noticeable, but very manigable, It's a very accurate round with good energy. I dropped a nice 9pt in it's track last year. I shoot sub. moa with Rem Cor-lokd 100 gr. Mine doesn't like 120gr.
Guest samueljm
Re: .25-06 The 25-06 is a dandy round and I think that actually there are a lot of people who shoot them. I have never shot it but I wanted one really bad for a while and from what I read its a super whitetail caliber. Fast flat shooting and a super bean field round. In my opinon it might be one of the greatest whitetail calibers around....thats arguable of course but thats just my opinion. If I were going to buy one I would stick with a 24" barrel and up though to reach maximum potential. -john
dogdoc
Re: .25-06 i think I'll be shooting the .25-06 until they bury me. I love the round. Very little recoil and some awesome power. I shoot the Remington 120grain corelokt. todd
Guest mountainhokie
Re: .25-06 nothing against a .25-o6, but i think my 7mm08 is just as good and very comparable to a .25-o6 from what i have heard.
too_pointer
Re: .25-06 I have one but kinda new to it. I bought a 25-06 barrel for my Encore and have 2 boxes of 120 grn. Rem Core-Lokts through it. I believe the next box of ammo I buy will be 100 or 117 grn bullets. I don't know if its the stock design on the Encore or what, but it has more recoil than I thought it would. It is very accurate and flat shooting. I have a laminate stock and simms recoil pad on it. I have a Nikon 4.5-14x40 on it, and I really love it. Hopefully I will break it in on a monster buck in a few days Good luck with your choice You won't be disappointed with a 25-06. too_
98chevy
Re: .25-06 I had a styer and never could find a bullet i liked. I loved shooting it at distances and was un real in accurcy. but for shooting deer. they run every time. My dad me and my brother shot deer with it all but 1 ran. But i feal it was the bullets we reloaded and i have the recipe wrintten down in my book. but i shot the same type bullet in my .308 and same thing they ran. Changed bullets in the .308 and not had any problems. But we traded the 25-06 for my new 7mag styer.
coles
Re: .25-06 i have a modified 25-06. its a 25 gibbs and i have shot one deer with it. there was a doe layin out in a stubble field and she was about 250 yards away. i put the crosshairs right on her head and it hit right between her eyes. there was no recoil either. i saw the bullet hit. but i have it loaded up with barnes triple shocks now but i cant remember what grain. my dad shoots a 25-06 too. he has shot a antelope and a whitetail buck both about 500 yards and neither of them ran. but its a very flat shooting gun and you wont regret getting one. tped
Re: .25-06 I've had great luck with the 25-06 using 117 grain loads. Devastating on deer. I used to have a custom gun made on an iterarms mark X action that would shoot 1/2" groups all day with factory ammo. I sold it in a weak moment and regret it to this day. 2 years ago I bought one of those sleek looking Ruger #1 stainless in 25-06 to have another and like most Ruger's they either shoot or don't and this one don't so far. Need to try to handload for it but just don't have the time but I really love the cartridge.
Guest Mathews4
Re: .25-06 my mom bought my dad one for christmas the year before last. he shot a six point with it last year and he was surprised of how it dropped the deer so fast. he used to hunt with a 7mm, but after a lung transplant he had to have something with less recoil and he loves his 25-06. HoosierDaddy28
Re: .25-06 I have a Sako 25-06 and love it. I shoot 117 grain BTSP light magnums through it. I killled a mulie at 380 yds with it and an antelope at 311 yds the year before. Very little recoil and very flat shooting.
Guest jayjaysin
Re: .25-06 I just shot my Ruger 25-06 this weekend for the first time. I shot both Remington and Federal 120 gr. The Federals shot about 1" higher than the Remingtons. My groups were 1"-2" high at 100 and 0"-2" high at 200. My BIL bought one for his son 1 year before he could hunt, so he used it that year. He liked it so much, he bought himself one the next year after his son starting hunting. So far so good, the 120 gr do a good job on whitetails. robk
Re: .25-06 100 grain is an ideal round for the 25-06 and a 120 grain bullet will also go well with it. my fav though is the 100 grain and look at barnes rob k

Equalizer
Re: .25-06 For a 25-06 I use a federal vital shok with a 100 grain barnes X-bullet. we've shot deer all the way out to 500 yards with it. it's one of my favorite calibers for deer. too_pointer
Re: .25-06 [ QUOTE ] go with the big boys bullets remington 150gr they work good [/ QUOTE ] If your talking about 25-06 bullets, I believe 120 grain bullets from the factory is the largest you can buy. Maybe hand load something a little heavier. too_
