wjr
Purchased a Cabelas, Outfitters Wool Dry Plus Parka a couple of weeks ago, and beleive that it is probably one of the best hunting coats that I've ever owned. The only problem is that the coat has a very strong odor about it. Kinda smells like burnt, wet burlap. Hung it outside for about a week and it still smelled. Washed it in scent free laundry detergent, and the coat absolutely reeked while wet. Dried, hung back outside for another week, and it still smells same as it did when I purchased it. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated
wtnhunt
Re: Wool Coat Odor Welcome to the forums. Have you tried spraying it with scnet away? Might also consider calling cabelas and asking them for suggestions.
GWSmith
Re: Wool Coat Odor Before my Wife got into hunting she once washed some of my clothes in some laundry detergent that, for lack of a better description, smelled like "FuFu Perfume". Even after re-washing in Pine-Sol it still smelled like that junk. So I used a Coleman Space Saver Bag and added a couple Hunters Specialties Fresh Earth Scent Wafers . After a couple days it did not smell like anything but the Scent Wafers.
RangerClay
Re: Wool Coat Odor Welcome to the Forums. I would try having it dry cleaned. That is what I do with my wool pants. Also dry cleaning will keep the moths out of your wool till next season. Have you tried contacting Cabelas? They will take the coat back if you are not satisfied.
