Guest CTJohnB
Say I was wondering for the rut and hunting state land is it better to go in scent free or using doe scent wafers in the dryer with my camo's Thanks for all replies
QDMAworks4me
Re: Rut Question I would go in scent free on your clothing and put out scent waffers or a scent bomb on a tree, only reason I say that is because next year in early archery season or something like that you may not want the smell on your clothing, you may want to be completly scent free. PAstringking
Re: Rut Question also if your in a tree and you smell like doe piss then the deer will look right up at you. you dont want that. hanging a scent wafer or bomb on a tree has always worked for me. also consider a drag if you walk a common trail on the way into the area you hunt. rossman
Re: Rut Question On state land, everyone and their mother uses scents so, I think the deer get accustomed to it and will get nervous. I personally think that the majority scents on the market are a ripoff anyway. Did the old time hunters like Fred Bear use any scents? Don't think so!!!! I think the only scent worth buying is racoon pee or fox pee to use as a cover scent.... And whenever someone says that they killed a buck because it came into a scent bomb, 9 time out of 10 that buck would have come in anyway!!!!! If you use scents everytime you go out then every deer you kill will be because of the scent. I just use earth scent cover scent and fox or racoon pee to over my tracks... --roossman
Guest CTJohnB
Re: Rut Question this place is ground hunting only, unfortunatly, I do have a decent ground blind I use for turkey I guess I'll hit the high ground and put some estrus scent down low and see what happens, Thanks for the info
Straight Shooter
Re: Rut Question [ QUOTE ] using doe scent wafers in the dryer with my camo's [/ QUOTE ] Don't do that wafers in the dryer, the rest of your clothes will smell like doe in heat. Go in as scent free as possible then hang the wafers out around your stand location in areas you think youmight get a shot on a buck. If he's smelling one of those then he's not looking in your direction.
Guest CTJohnB
Re: Rut Question Good point sraight shooter, I didnt even think of that, Wow that would deffinatly make it easier for them to peg you on the ground. even in a blind, So I guess it's safe to say it probrably would better to use coon urine on my boots verses non estrus doe urine to cover my scent! There's no fox in my area , I tried that scent last year and never saw a thing again. Thank You for the replies everyone I am certain that will make a major differance for my first A season deer hunt on State land. I always get B and have never as much as seen one following the first seasons massive offensive durring the A season LOL
