Well, I was in Illinois for 10 days hunting with a friend. We were seeing alot of young bucks, but the shooter bucks that we were getting on the trailcams weren't passing by us during daylight. We hunted everyday keeping up the vigil. As you all know, when deer hunting it could happen in an instant. I was down to my last hunt Sunday evening. We discussed the plans on where I should be for the evening. We had got a bunch of trailcam pics near a bean field that hadn't been picked yet. So, Willie said I should hunt one side of the field and he would hunt the other. We setup a doe decoy about 22 yards out in front of my stand with some estrus scent in the Peewilliewick. I saw a coyote around 4pm. Other than that, it was quiet. Light was fading fast and I was thinking about the fun we had, but I was also thinking about how I was going to get ragged for coming home empty handed! ::) Then I heard something rustling in the leaves across the field on the hill side. It was too dark to see what it was at that distance. I knew it had to be a deer and most likely a buck heading towards my decoy. When it broke out into the field, I knew it was a shooter! Imediately my phone started vibrating! I knew it was Willie wanting to know if I saw the buck heading my way. Of course I didn't answer it. lol I was up and ready for action. He got about half way across the field and heard something in the woods behind me and he locked up. Darn Squirrels. He stood there for what seemed like forever, as light was fading even faster. Finally he comitted and started coming closer. He did just like he was supposed to and started circling around behind the decoy closer to me. I drew back when he was 30 yards out but he turned and was facing me but coming closer. I held my draw and waited as he closed the distance to a mere 18 yards and finally turned broadside! I lined the sight up behind his shoulder and don't even remeber squeezing the trigger. ThWACK! I saw the arrow drove to the fletching behind the shoulder as he tore off out of the field. Man, Talk about a rush! smile.gif I was shaking so bad I almost couldn't get the cel phone out my pocket to answer willie who was immediatly calling me. We decided to get out of there and come back an hour latter to track him up. When we got back, willie went right to the spot where he saw him go into the woods. I started where the shot was taken. Willie found blood right away and we joined up to unravel the trail. Which was easy to follow. What a great hunt! Thanks Willie for having me up. I enjoyed evey minute of the trip!
