Hey guys my archery season is over for this year and I am thinking about getting a new bow. I always hunt from a treestand with a bow. What do you guys prefer for hunting from a treestand? Fixed Pin or Pendulum? I was thinking about the Cobra sights but Im not sure....im just trying to get some imput from other hunters. Thanks guys!

Re: Pins or Pendulum?

I have used both fixed sites and pendulum sites and have had success with both. Unlike some of the previous posts, I've never had a problem shooting a pendulum. With the speeds and trajectories that most compound bows shoot today, you can practically use one pin for multiple yardage shots (i.e. 10-30 yards). Since my bow shoots so flat and most of my shots are typically inside of 30 yards, I only have one pin on my bow.

With that said, I started hunting with a longbow this season so I don't have to worry about sites. wink.gifgrin.gif

Re: Pins or Pendulum?

Pendulum and it works great. Like hunt4bucks says most shots are within 30 yards and my pendulum is good as set out to 30 yards so why do I need 2, 3, or 4 pins when that is the case. However, I hunt from a tree stand almost exclusively so the uphill problem has not presented itself to me yet.

I really like my pendulum and have no plans to change it for now.

Have fun! grin.gif

Re: Pins or Pendulum?

I have a Savage pen. and I really like it. Elevated from 20-0 dead on. This is sighting it in on the ground at 20 yards too. ONce past 20, it starts the fall, id say shooting from and elvated area on a 30 yard shot it falls at most 3 inches. Just one of those things you just have to get to know your equipment!!!

Re: Pins or Pendulum?

i used a pendulum sight with my first bow i set my sight off the top of the garage like i always do and at different heights and elevations the pendulum shot differently i switched to pins as soon as this happened. I was hunting a hill I had the hill in front of me and a vally behind me and i had a big eight point come in behind me i shot over him at 20 yards when he was behind me and he ran up and stopped on the hill and I shot under him at 25 yards i bought a new sight two days later with pins on it. I set the sight off the top of the garage and i was huntin the same stand and I killed a doe down in the valley behind me at 30 yards so i been shootin pins ever since and they seem to shoot the same wether im on the ground or in a stand.

Stick with pins and learn how to shoot from an elevated position.

In my experience a pendulum can really cause you grief if you hunt a hillside or different stand heights.

I use a Cobra pendulum. I hunt from the ground but in very steep terrain. I've never had a problem with the accuracy of my pendulum. I think it's just a matter of knowing your equipment and using what feels comfortable to you.
