I have had a passing interest in my ancestry. I started a little on it a few years ago and gave up quickly. frown.gif

Well one of my sons had a essay to write about this subject and I did the best I could. shocked.gif So I started to do some more online research and discovered that some other distant kin had been doing some to a great extent. cool.gif

It has been intersting to tag along on some of them and then with the census of certain years available and other links I have been doing some findings of my own to fill in a couple of blanks.

I would post of some of the discoveries but I am not able to certify that my lines are 100% correct. wink.gif

(Stuff like Daniel Boone is possibly a great-great........uncle of mine and also that I have links to royal blood and kin that came over on Mayflower.egads that is something would be awesome if correct)

Has anybody done any research work in your family?

Any tips to give? confused.gif

Re: Genealogy

Absolutely. I am blessed to have some amazing historians on both sides of my family. In high school I had a geneolgy report in Sociology class and I interviewed my great-grandmother and grandmother on my mom's side and my aunt and grandmother on my dad's side and I was able to trace both sides back some 10 generations (all the way back to Ireland, Scotland, Germany as well as the Cherokee blood in my vains). I ended up with enough information to almost write a novel. The teacher was rather impressed because she gave us a minmum length for the report, but no maximum. After I trimmed some of the fat, I turned in a 51 page report, a very detailed family tree, copies of nearly 100 old photos spanning 6 generations and many old family heirlooms.

She was so impressed that to this day she still uses it as an example of the project (and I was in that class 13 years ago).

Re: Genealogy

My brother was contacted by a distant relative that was doing the work to get the facts on our side of the family. She had been working on it for several years and gave my brother a copy of what she had found to that point. Her records had traced our ancestors back to 1574 in Switzerland.

My mother was doing that with her sister, then they found stuff they didnt want to know

LOL Sounds like my family! We found out that a very distant grandfather was responsible for starting the Protestant religion when they broke away from the Catholic church, but this same man lived with a woman for about 10 years before they actually married. And then we discovered that my great grandfather was a full fledged, sheet wearing, KKK member shocked.gif. Not what I wanted to find, but I guess we all have our skeletons. Thankfully the generations have gotten a lot more accepting since then!!

If so...welcome to the Jefferson "club". My dad's mother was a Jefferson. Her Grandfather was a Thomas Jefferson. In doing the geneology, we're in a parrallel line to the President. He's an uncle to my line. The president's grandparents are my g-g-g-g-g (give or take a great) grandparents.

Re: Genealogy

Have some pretty good information on my my father side and have a pretty accurate family tree. My great grandfather and family came to the United States from Belgium in the late 1800's, think it was 1878 without looking. The were very prominent in the mining industry in the eastern part of this country.

Furthest back on that side that I have been able to find goes back to 1820 to a belgian who would have been my great great great grandfather.
