Indiana Rifle Season....Near Future??

Just lookin to stir up some opinions about Indiana getting a rifle season....

Indiana has always had a firearms season where legal weapons include shotgun, muzzleloader, and pistol (>=.357 cal...i think?)....

My question is with the landslide improvements to muzzleloaders (now accurate to 200yds) and pistols using rifle caliber rounds being legal (like the TC Contender) ....how much longer do you think it will be before Indiana allows rifles too??

i hope never....opening day can be scary, i always hear people unloading their shotgun at a deer its crazy. i can only imagine someone unloading a rifle across a field 250yds knowing they couldnt hit it at 75yds standing still

My sentiments exactly. While muzzleloaders and rifled slug guns are approaching 200 yard accuracy, there are people out there that would shoot 500 yards with a high powered rifle. I'd rather not have that in the same woods with me, thanks.

Re: Indiana Rifle Season....Near Future??

Can anyone from Indiana tell me why they wont let you guys hunt with high powered rifles? I live in Ky and would hate for them to say we had to switch to shotguns to deer hunt with. If so I would just use my muzzleloader during deer shotgun season id think.

I guess Im just curious being our states are so close togther one using shotgun the other state allowing high power rifles? The only think I can t hiink of is I know from driving in Indina you guys have ALOT of corn fields. So taking it with so many open fields people are hunting make it more dangerous?

I know when I hunt soe bean fields here in KY with the guys I hunt with know there gun limits and wouldnt even think a shot they know they couldnt hit at.

Thanks!

Re: Indiana Rifle Season....Near Future??

As said by HoosierDaddy...Indiana doesn't allow use of rifles due to Indiana being too populated....however, where I hunt....there's maybe three houses per square mile tops....I'm not saying I want a Indiana Rifle season, but gosh could I have killed some giants if I could use the ole rifle....by the way pistols shooting rifle calibers are legal...my hunting buddy shoots 3" groups at 200 yds with a Contender (.35 cal, with a great rest of course).....
