Turkeygirl
I'm kind of late posting this but the weekend was crazy and the last few days as most of you know, lol, but on Friday I scored on a nice young doe! My 2nd deer this season with the new bow and the first time I've gotten 2 deer in archery season. I give so much thanks to the Lord Ok here's the story and I'll post a photo later. So I have a north wind on Friday so I climb into my trusty stand, the one I've gotten a deer out of every year until this year when I got that buck from a different stansd. I pray that if it His will, He would bless me with a deer tonight. It feels like a good night. I was in the stand by 3:30pm.It was probably around 4:30pm, give or take a few minutes, that I hear leaves crunch from in front and to my right slightly. I know it's not squirrels! Here comes a nice young doe walking on a diagonal towards me. I have to wait to stand up until her head goes behind a tree for a 2nd, then when it goes behind another tree, turn so I can draw my bow. She stops about 15 yards to munch acorns behind a tree. I'm like "great, I'm going to fall off this stand shaking and now you are going to make me wait!" Well as she eats, another doe comes out from behind her and makes her way over. Well the first doe finally starts to move and looks like she is going to walk right past me at 10 yards. I had to time the drawing of my bow just right because if she wasn't behind a tree, she'd probably see me being that close. her head goes behind a tree. I draw my bow back, she steps out, I put my 10 yard pin on her and thwack! The arrow hits behind the shoulder but a little back and doesn't fall out right away. she turns and takes off and I watch. I'm thinking why did that arrow not go all the way through? It wasn't forward enough to hit shoulder and not high enough for spine...hmmm...So I call home to let mom know, andy is at work and won't be home for another couple hours, so mom and my sister plan to get the dolley and bring it and meet me when/if I find the deer. I get done, find some lood right away, not a whole ton but enough, then I find a little stomach matter with the blood, I'm like Oh c**p. Well I follow her trail, blood slowly gets heavier, then I first find the arrow sitting perfectly atop this log she jumped over, cool Then I find alot of blood and then there she is!!! Yes! I call mom and tell her I got her, then I get her cleaned, put the drag rope on and start dragging. I'm glad she was a young doe because it made dragging by myself, covered in blood, lol, alot easier! I meet my sister and mom halfway up the first field, put the deer on and get her home. So I figured out then when I shot, the arrow hit a little back because she was moving when I shot, at least took a step and I forgot the part about making an oise with my mouth to make then stop I was caught up in the moment Then I figured out the arrow stopped because as it passed through her, it her knee on the opposite hind leg - cut her patellar tendon. I did hit some lung and her stomach was actually kind of empty so it wasn't really messy inside. The Hoyt Rintec XL strikes again! So that will probably complete my archery season, need to get ready for shotgun I'm going to try to wait it out and see if I can get a bigger buck, at least an 8 point. A 7 point is my biggest buck so I'll see what the Lord blesses me with shotgun. Well that's my story, sorry to ramble on. I'll get a photo up soon!
