Guest MIhillbilly
Went and scouted my gun hunting spot a couple of weeks ago and was surprised to find a big timber job taking place in the area where I hunt. I didn't even recognize the spot where I took a nice 9pt a last year. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out the best strategy to hunt this place now. The timber cut is shaped somewhat like a half circle with the flat side bordering a road and the apex of the semi-circle up on a ridge between two deep valleys. Allthough it's not been clearcut, it is really opened up now. The timber crew told me they hoped to be done the week before gun season opens. I'm considering hanging my stand up on the ridge 50-100 yards inside the old growth timber at the edge of the timber job. (this is also only about 300-400 yards from the saddle where I got the 9pt) My hope is that this will become somewhat of an "inside corner" and deer will travel this to avoid the comotion and open area of the freshly timbered area. Anyone have any thoughts or experience hunting around a recent timber cut? Thanks.

SE_KSBowhunter
Re: Hunting around a fresh timber job??? Sounds like a good setup to me. We had our timber selective cut a couple of years ago. The deer changed their typical patterns, but remained in the area. Good luck!
