TCFORLIFE
I need some help from the TC guys. I purchased an encore with a hb 308. I have shot two boxs of shells through it so far and it shot great. I took it back out today and shot it and first three were good and now the firing pin will not strike the primer hard enough. Looks like now the hammer is not even striking at all. Anybody know whats up?
johnf
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore It sounds to me like your not closing the gun down good. I'm not a tc guy, but that's what it sounds like.
Guest shotist
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Possibly set the hammer for the rimfire position instead of the centerfire position?
TCFORLIFE
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore I have the newer encore and it doesn't have the switch for rimfire or centerfire. I"ve tried closing the gun pretty hard. I'm starting to think something has broken inside.
Guest Lynn_in_IN
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore is this happening while the firing pin is set on center fire? mine did that for a while. when i closed the gun, somehow it would move the cartridge forward just far enough that the pin would make contact but no enough to fire. the primer actually had a small dent, but wouldn't fire. sounds odd. but check the primer. if that is what yours is doing, put the round back in, close the gun, the use your fingernail to see if you can pull the round backwards just a bit. mine would fire every time then. it's frustrating... Guest Lynn_in_IN
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore wait.. sorry. you said it isn't closing.. hhmmm. try snapping it closed or just gently shutting it? don't you hate it when you find something you love only to have it mess up.... uuggghhhh. AJ
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore You may have a bad (broken) firing pin spring. Was the gun shot in a muzzleloader configuration much? If so it might not have been cleaned properly and the blow back has gunked up (yeah its a technical term) the firing pin. I would remove the firing pin and have a looksie.
TCFORLIFE
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Not sure what is going on at this point. I have tried everything i know possible. Cleaned the firing pin and complete reciever last night and no improvement. I'm going to take it back to the place where I bought it. VTbowman
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Bad spring inside. Or weak. Has nothing to do with closing the gun. If it was not closed it would not fire at all.
TCFORLIFE
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore I took the gun over to the shop where I purchased it from and had him look at for me and it turns out there is a bad spring inside. Kinda sucks but glad there going to take care of it for me. The guy that sold it to me even told me he would give me a loaner to use until mine was ready. VTbowman
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Hey man those triggers jobs are super easy to do your self. Go here and check out his download, with step by step pics and everything. I bought my own springs set off ebay (one of his sets) and did it myself in about 30 minutes. I have a super crisp, creep free, and low poundage trigger now for mine. If you have any mechical ability and some very simple tools you can do it too. http://www.bellmtcs.com/

VTbowman
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Even if you have it fixed you can still have the trigger better using the download I gave a link to. Springs are pretty cheap ($7 or so) and your labor is free. Unless you screw it up. No just kidding.. LOL
TCFORLIFE
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Vtbowman, the kit you sent me the link to what pound of pull is the kit? I didn't see where it said the poundage. I bought my encore with the hunter trigger kit. I hope that is what they put back. If they don't I will order a kit and try it myself. Sucks that it broke right before season opens. Was really lookin forward to knocking something down with the new gun. I guess there will be plenty of time later. VTbowman
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore His site is a bit tricky to navigate. The link I gave you basically gives you the page you can download the free trigger job download. You may have to back up or go elsewhere on his site to find the "store". He has everything mixed together, info and items to buy in page layers... You have to poke around a bit but as for poundage he sells springs with less then a pound pull to 5 or 6 pound depending on your gun and what number spring to buy. He suggests to buy a 3 spring kit since they are listed in pounds but a 3# spring could get ya 2.5# or 3.5# in your particular gun. I believe he has them number 1-7. He also sells higher poundage hammer springs, lock up springs, and you can buy 1 spring to a whole kit. I bought a #4 spring, listed as 2 to 3 pound pull, from him and did mine. I also did the "stoning" part which is basically smoothing out the cast and rough spots on all the trigger and hammer parts that touch inside to make the operation extremely smooth and crisp. The stoning can lower poundgae in itself so you cant go nuts doing it. My trigger is set to about 1.25# and is SWEET. The facotry spring and trigger set up was around 5.5# when I got the gun. This guy will do all this for you as well for around $80 but for $7 I did it myself. Yes I am frugal (cheap). LOL
TCFORLIFE
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore Thanks VTbowman for the info, sorry it took me so long to get back. I have been really busy at work. I'm going to order a spring kit and try it myself.
robk
Re: Help with Thompson Center Encore check to make sure everything is right and double check your bolt that screws in the stock to the frame and that your not cimped. i had that happen and that is what happened to me. also check and make sure you have not done something to cause the hammer to be bent back. i know people will say that can't happen but it can good luck i loved my encore 308 and it shot great but i also found if your changing stocks and stuff like that and it isn't seated properly with two washers it will create things like your talking about rob k
