Re: Camping out for Playstation 3?

I have to admit I'm a "gamer" and even work in the PC gaming industry off and on when I can find work. I'm also an avid hunter and fisherwoman. Gaming, hunting, and fishing are all my hobbies. With that said, even I wouldn't camp out for a PS3 console or any gaming console for that matter. Now if I happened to walk into some store that people overlooked at having a PS3 for sale in and seen one for sale for cheap yeah I'd grab it, but only to resell it for profit on ebay to desperate people, not to use it myself. Otherwise I just completely ignore the gaming consoles that come out.

I've never been impressed by any gaming console on the market these days. I never saw the point to buy a system that could only play specific games and that just about every year or two years upgraded to a new model that you'd have to buy all over again in order to play the newer style games. Yes, they improved by making the new models of Playstations backwards compatible with their older console games, but that still dosen't mean you can pop a PS3 game into your PS2, meaning if you want the newer games coming out you must upgrade to a whole new system.

Most the games that come out on these "gaming consoles" also are made for the PC, very few don't have a PC version. I find it more practical to just upgrade my PC when needed and to play the PC versions of all these games. That way I have a single PC that I have to purchase only one time that can handle playing the games for a good 3 years before needing an upgrade of any kind, and even then I can choose to only upgrade the parts I need to instead of having to buy a whole new system. It's much more cheaper in my eyes to go the PC Gaming route than the Console Gaming route. My PC not only will feed my gaming needs, but it lets me do my bills, I can turn it into a TV, watch DVDs, listen to music CDs, talk with all my friends online, do research, start/run a business, etc. etc. grin.gif

Maybe I don't fit the bill for "hardcore gamer", but I'm still a gamer, just one of the practical ones that realizes consoles are just hype mainly and that the PC's of today can be just as good gaming systems for a lot less waste of money (when you look at it over a 3+ year basis) because of their abilities to be used for other things, not just gaming, how readily available and configurable they are, and how compatible they are with past and future games. You never see mad rushes like this over PC Systems around Christmas because there are way too many companies competing on creating them for any one company to set up a gimic such as the Playstations and XBox companies do by only shipping minimal stock of their system just before the holidays.

So, yeah never understood the hype of getting so crazy over a new gaming system, but to each their own. If they want to spend that amount of money every year or two years and camp out around Christmas to get the systems while they are overpriced, then so be it. It's their money, not mine. grin.gif The only thing I find disgraceful about this whole camping out for first sale of the items is people get pretty darn nasty when those doors open in a mad rush to get the systems, people get hurt, children get hurt, etc. That's the only part about it I find outrageous is that people will hurt others over an entertainment toy. crazy.gif

Re: Camping out for Playstation 3?

Everyone in my family except for me play those games, I just don't understand that "use" of time, anyway, no, I wouldn't wait in line 5 minutes to buy one.

One crazy thing I think I saw with that new machine is the controller. Aren't they designed to be kind of like a TV remote? confused.gif Looked like a really uncomfortable design to shoot monsters and such.

LOOK at the type of people standing in line for this game. ( The ones they keep showing on tv.) crazy.gifcrazy.gifcrazy.gif

And now there's reports of people being robbed and a person was SHOT outside a Wal-Mart. These people waiting in line have cash in their pockets and the thugs are finding easy-pickins. ooo.gif

To each his own. Our is hunting, theirs is gaming. They prolly say the same thing about those who spend over a thousand dollars on a bow and string.

Most of the ones in line will tell you they plan on reselling them on ebay. there are only 400,000 available at a cost of roughly $600 I believe. There's talk they'll be able to get between 2-5k on ebay for some or at least double the money they paid for the majority.

Not for me though..

Exactly, most of the people who camp are basically doing a job. They do not want the units for themselves. They sell them on Ebay and end up selling their 600 dollar unit for a few grand. Why people need them bad enough to pay a few grand for something they know only cost 600 is beyond my reasoning. Very stupid if you ask me. Same people who probaly can't afford their other bills

Re: Camping out for Playstation 3?

Stupidity is about all that comes to mind for those who will pay those who stand in line for days their asking prices. No great surprise they(sony) pulls this kind of crap right before Christmas either. This will make their next release of the ps3 sell that much faster for those who had to have one but could not get it.
