I tried...Buck Down (pic)

My sister has always been a girlie girl and never really wanted anything to do with the outdoors. This year I decided I was going to skip out on the trip up north for opening day of gun season and hunt around home. I figured it would be a perfect opportunity to try to introduce her to hunting and the outdoors. I talked her into going out with me opening morning a couple weeks before the season. After bow hunting all fall and seeing several bucks, I figured we had a good chance. So I went out and built a ground blind with downfall big enough for the two of us. It was super thick so I had to spend a few hours chopping out shooting lanes as well. Well the 15th came and I got up at about 5:15, got the truck loaded, woke my sister up at 5:45 and we were out the door by 6. We had about a 15 minute walk to the blind. We got settled in about 20 minutes before shooting light. I promised the first legal deer we saw that wasnt a fawn, I would shoot. It wasnt long and she had her head in her lap, then came the complaining of how booring this was. Then "there isnt any deer here." So it was about 8am and we hadnt seen anything yet so I said "im gonna call one in right now", just messing around of course. So I opened my backpack and got out "The Can" and tipped it upside down 3 or 4 times. Of course, the noise brought a grin to her face. grin.gif We had a good laugh and it wasnt a minute later, I look left and there was a deer 40 yards out moving through some thick stuff. I got the muzzle loader up and could see through the scope it was a buck. I told my sister there was a buck and was going to shoot it when I got a shot. She said she saw it. I clicked the safety off and the buck heard it. He stopped and got a little spooky. He started angling away from us, when he hit a small clearing I grunted with my voice and he stopped...but of course with his vitals behind a small tree. I put the crosshairs just to the right of the tree and he took a step and I let him have it. He did a mule deer kick and I could just barely make him out running through the smoke and watched him pile up after about 80 yards. I was all pumped up and turned to my sister and says "did you see that?!?!", she replies "yeah, that gun is loud", and I say "thats exciting isnt it?!?!" and she says "no, not really" smirk.gif Well we both went and found him. He ended up being a nice little 6 point. It was a hard quartering shot, I hit him just in front of the hind leg and exited behind the opposite shoulder hitting guts, liver and one lung. I was totally pumped up. I got him gutted and spent the rest of the morning dragging him out of the woods. I am truely thankful to be able to hunt this section of private land and plan on giving most of the meat to the land owner. Him and his wife have treated me well. As for my sister, I think shes going to stick to being a drama queen. smirk.gif I did make her get a picture with the deer though....and she smiled. grin.gif

LOL, thats anotherfunny part of the story. I got the deer away from my blind to gut. She stood about 10 feet away trying not to watch but as soon as I opened him up and that big "hiss" of stomach gasses came out, she was done. She walked about 30 yards away and stood behind a tree. grin.gif I told her "the funs over and this is all a part of the game."
