Guest Illinois1958
Re: Just not Fair (pic) If it wanders into a neighbors propery what can you do? Put yourself in his spot. A gut shot deer comes by you and you put it down and then the guy that gut shot it shows up on your property and says "Hey, i shot it first". You would say "Tuff luck, better luck next year". Thats what property boundries are these days. The best shot counts. Sorry for your day but get out there tomorrow and see if you can find another big boy. It is Illinois after all. wtnhunt
Re: Just not Fair (pic) Nice deer, not sure if there are any laws pertaining to this or not, but think in all honesty the guy who gave the deer the lethal shot whether if he had known or not known the deer was shot or shot at by you, he should get to keep the deer. snapper
Re: Just not Fair (pic) Here in PA...its the shot that puts the deer on the ground. Yes your shot would have eventually killed the deer...but he made the lethal shot to put the deer down. Stinks because that is a heck of a deer. [/ QUOTE ] I have to agree with this. Sucks you did not make a better shot but in this case he did put it down and kill it, and on his property to boot. I would of done the exact same thing in his case. Sorry, it sucks for you I know, because it is a great buck and was on your side and you shot 1st. Squirrelhunter91
Re: Just not Fair (pic) I thought that it was whoever draws first blood gets the deer??? That really sucks for losing it. I wouldn't really be able to deal with something like that man.

Guest CLB
Re: Just not Fair (pic) There is no way I could keep a deer that someone else had already shot fatally and was tracking. Everytime I look at it I would be thinking I really didn't deserve it. Some people must be pretty desperate and selfish to tag a buck somebody else has already shot and is trying to retrieve. superguide
Re: Just not Fair (pic) There's 5 big whitetail that aren't in my house because of the first blood-last blood debate-two were lightly wounded deer I tracked for miles but the other guy took because of first scratch the other were dead on their feet but they put last shot in. It sucks for sure.

wtnhunt
Re: Just not Fair (pic) The way you really need to remember to look at this here is turn it around and put yourself in the other hunters shoes. A monster comes by you, you had heard a shot, but you may not have any idea that the hunter who shot did not down his deer, and you see a deer coming your way that is a great deer. In the time you see a monster like this, a definite shooter buck, are you really assessing to see if the deer has been gut shot or not or even shot at all or are you concentrating on trying to make a good shot yourself to put the animal down? shockwave
Re: Just not Fair (pic) It`s more of an ethical question more than anything. If the guy had any kind ethics he would have given you the deer. A guy we hunt with shot a deer in the rear-end a couple of years ago, he asked me if i would help him track it. I ended up tracking the deer down and finishing it off for him. I called the guy on my walkie talkie and told him to come and get HIS deer. Some people are real ***, just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get out there and get er done ...
Guest Colorado_Sportsman
Re: Just not Fair (pic) I don't know about there but here you need to get permission from the landowner to retrieve game that goes on their property. Even if it's wounded or dead the landowner dosen't have to let you retrieve it. So if you were out here in CO your neighbor could have claimed your deer and never even fired a shot at it. Tought loss, be sure to make a better shot on the next one. Good luck.
