Well depends how much tree cover you are talking I guess ... as you know they work off satellites and require line of sight ... I just bought the Garmin Rino GPS/ radios combos. Very cools system which shows you where you partners are at the same time they talk to you. I have the Garmin Vista and in the beginning of archery season it sometimes takes a few minutes for it to lock on. But still it gets me where I need to go. You may get better reception under overcast days than days with alto-cirrus clouds. It's all about satelite position and the signal they put out and the interferrance for that given day. Think clouds, atmosphere and GPS antenna. With experience with any GPS you can predict reception even before turning your unit on. As far as foliage is concerned.
