Guest southbound
I,m looking to chamber my encore for a moose & caribou hunt. Trying to decide on a 300 win mag. or a 338 standard. I am concerned about recoil on the lightweight rifle. I,m also considering a Burris short mag scope. Any opinions on this package.
iron buck
Re: tc encore caliber & scope If recoil is a problem.................solve it with a 30-06 topped w a leupold VX-II 2-7 or 3-9. You will kill any caribou or moose that walks the earth with power to spare.
AJ
Re: tc encore caliber & scope Welcome to the group. By a 338 standard do you mean the 338 Win Mag or the 338 Federal, or 338-06 A-Square? They do pack some punch but are not necessary to get the job done. As Iron Buck mentioned, a 30-06 will kill them just as dead and will save your shoulder. If you think you have to have a magnum, you can get a muzzle brake installed. It will drastically reduce the push to your shoulder but it WILL BE VERY LOUD!
VTbowman
Re: tc encore caliber & scope After seeing the write up AJ linked me to on my new 7mm Rem Mag, that sounds like what your looking for. A bit more juice being a magnum with lower recoil, somewhere around the 30-06. Not sure but check into that if you want. That link is listed in my post on this caliber here in the rifle room. Good Luck. BTW I agree that the 30-06 will do the trick.
