ousoonerfan22
I was sitting in the deer stand this morning and had only seen a doe and a fawn until around 8:00 when a coyote started across an opening about a 150 yards away. After taking the shot with my Ruger no.1 270 and FP 150 gr partitions I glassed but couldn't see him in the grass.I tried to stay in the stand a little longer but finally had to get down to see if I hit him or missed. I was happy to see the 270 dropped him in his tracks. Brian

ousoonerfan22
Re: dropped a coyote this morning I'm wondering if I use a predator call while I'm in the deer stand if it will spook the deer in that area? I'm hunting a travel route that's pretty open so I would only call late in the morning after the deer have already crossed the property.I've hunted this property for about 20 years so I know what the peak hours are when the deer are going to travel through, except during the rut. silvertip_co
Re: dropped a coyote this morning Well it aint much but I finally fired my gun in anger here in Colo. We had a huge bluegreywolfsized coyote cross in front of us. When I got into shooting position I couldnt see the coyote. So we went to the top of a hill to watch and later I saw one of the coyote following a deers trail and shot it with my ol 06. I was hoping for a hanging rug but the greenbox Rem ammo cut the coyote half in two almost. So we took it to a taxidermist in Idaho Springs and he said he could could fix my problem for 450.00. My coyote isnt the bluegreywolf one but it sure is a beauty. It's a lady too and I know the mule deer and elk will thank me for that. So if my poor Colo hunting luck continues in the future at least I'll have an overpriced dead dog hanging on my fireplace wall. I had to work today and tomorrow so my big game hunting year is over. Time to reflect back on 2006 and look forward to 2007 and maybe think on Elkatraz4.
ousoonerfan22
Re: dropped a coyote this morning I expected this coyote to have a large exit wound but I'm assuming since the partition bullet doesn't explode like a ballistic tip it just punched a hole throught the rib cage so there was only blood on the exit side.
